Alright, I don't know if anyone has tried this yet but here's my idea.
There is a company called PCS that makes a controller for the 5R110. Technically, one could get a computer for a manual trans V10 and run the 5R110 w/controller in place of the 4R100. Looks like the controller is about $900ish.
Wouldn't that be sick!
Edit: Damn, I must be typing too fast....Didn't even see that I misspelled "Torqueshift" in the title.
Yup! I looked into that as well and I "think" it just might work....
Or something else will crop up...
We swapped a mid 90's VW Eurovan from automatic to stick. Swapped EVERYTHING we could think of, including the ECU in from the 5 speed donor, but still ended up with lots of wiring modifications to clear up "communication" issues and CEL's. Even had problems getting getting the clutch/neutral interlock working. It was like even the ignition switch was different between the two! Finally had to bypass all the interlocks and install a momentary contact switch to activate the starter. It all eventually worked, but took way longer than our patience held out! Maybe I would do it all again if it was in a Ferrari someone gave to me....
Don't delete it. I've been wondering if some one made a stand alone controller. I thought I saw one bu tnow you confirmed it. I think I've asked this before as well...
I see no reason why this wouldn't work but I have to wonder about the cost versus benefit. If you got the tranny real cheap...well then I could see it. But if it's just about adding a ratio I wonder if a Gear Vendors O/U wouldn't serve that purpose cheaper and easier. The 4R100 can be made hell strong.
I read something about the standalone controller in a 5.9l diesel swap thread. The guy went with a built 4R100 because it was a lot cheaper than a mildly built 5R110 with the standalone controller. The thread was like 50 pages long.
...one could get a computer for a manual trans V10....
Don't bother with swapping ECUs. You can turn the auto trans functions off in the tune easily.
Then run the stand alone tranny controller for the upgraded tranny.
Some guy corrected your spelling and you wanted to take your ball and go home. Try growing a little thicker skin. From what I've seen Krewat does an excellent job modding this forum.
LOL- if you only knew exactly how RIGHT you are! Mark IS "Mr. Transmission-know-it-all"!
Mark worked for Ford's powertrain division designing transmissions and has been helping Ford truck owners with questions/issues for over 12 years... at least that's how long I've known him (online).
I thought it was interesting that Sooper-Doodie pointed out that he misspelled a word, and misspelled it differently in his correction. Most people's hides are not THAT thin.
