Frozen homeless people...that is sad. Very unfortunate.
We saw something sad today. We were in the grocery store and we went by and abandoned shopping cart in the frozen food section. In the cart, was one of those rotisserie chickens in the plastic dome. I looked down and the chicken was mostly eaten. Someone had put it into the cart and then pushed the cart around the store, eating the chicken. After a while they just abandoned the cart and left. At first, I laughed and thought, "Man, what a dirtbag" but as I thought about it more and more it got to me a little. That was probably a person that was hungry and had no money to eat. They did what they had to do.....and that's sad.

Me too. I mean I know it's the same old OT but it does feel different. It's like we are with family, but in a hotel or something....

Rock Valley is currently -2 degrees, wind chill of -27 with a 40% chance of snow tomorrow. High tomorrow there is -3 with wind chills of -35 to -40. I'm so excited about the cold.
Good to hear that the IA road crews are good at keeping the main roads clear. My driving will be all on I-70 west to KC, then I-29 North to Rock Valley. We should be fine.
Scott, glad to hear the kids and grand baby are doing well. I'm sure she'll appreciate you getting her a tree too.
This is a pretty funny video. The pres is in Iraq giving some kind of farewell speech, and someone in the crowd throws a shoe at him. Who throws a shoe? Video - Breaking News Videos from CNN.com
The kids are all great and for that we are very happy. Be careful out on those roads Jeremy!

Cody did that to another little kid when she was about 8 or 9. I had to really bite my tongue to keep from laughing.

and strangers keep wandering in and commenting on how strange we are!! Or something like that. Then for some reason truck topics get started, which is what we don't need in here and I think that is why it got shoved out of where it was intended to stay in the first place.
Another Stabbing just a few blocks away from where i live... Three "latino" men walked up to a random person jumped him took his wallet and some other stuff and stabbed him in the shoulder... Thats the third or fourth random attack within a few blocks of where i live in the past two months... This is getting old! When i was growing up here we never had to worry about violence are "Bad people" or gangs... Id ride my bike around till after dark and never had to think twice about it... Now when i park my truck i wait and make sure no one is around when i get out... And i keep my knife in my hand while i walk to my door... This is lame! Im tempted to go by a gun and carry it with me from my truck to my house!
Damn, Nolan. Be careful out there. To be honest, that was one of the factors that we considered when we were asked to move to Texas from Cali. I didn't want my daughter to go to high school with the thug factor. Plus, our neighborhood (Dover South in Fairfield) was getting really bad. We moved here and haven't been back since.
Sheldon, I hope you realize this is just friendly yanking on your chain. The US tried this metric conversion chit 20 or 30 years ago and our citizens raised such a stink about it, it is nothing but a bad taste left in our mouths today. But I gotta say it makes for some very confusing, frustrating tool boxes.
just means I need twice as many tools in my toolbox

don't worry jeremy,,, the iowa road crews are the best in the state.. in reality they generally do a good job... but during the storm is always touch and go. They'll hit the high traffic/ problem areas first and through the storm.
Thundersleet......I don't think I have ever seen such a thing til tonight.... Jeremy if the west side of the state is getting this crap you'd best be checking the Iowa 511 site on the web for road conditions...Getting nasty here in the southeast corner... I am an hour south( in good weather) of the quad cities on us 61.
ETA - good thing I got fuel this morning when it was 50 F, the weather is showing an overnight low of 4 F.....

So far so good here, baby girl has been teething a lot, so I got her, and momma put down for a nap and I'm watching TV in peace. I forgot what that was like!

This is one of the reasons this Californian had the good sense to escape. My family goes back both sides to the gold rush days and we have all gotten out. I even had an Uncle that was a Governor and US Senator from California. I am just about to start a poll in the Club about what do you think ruined the America I grew up in, You know the Leave it to Beaver days that were so simple. I need suggestions on choices. For sure the Viet Nam War was the first wrong step, then the nearly nonstop immigration of other countries problem people, I need some ideas for my multiple choice questions.

It sucks that some rich ****** that got voted into office are sitting pretty and giving themselves raises while people are forced to steal just to keep from starving.
Congress and the Senate are talking to these bankers and automakers whose companies are in deep debt and asking why the company officers aren't taking pay cuts and asking why they aren't selling their private jets. It seems to me like all those politicians have their heads so far up their ***** that they can't see the mirror. Who is more in debt than the American government? Are the congressmen cutting their pay? Are the senators cutting their pay? No. They're not. If the government was a private company they would have all been unemployed LONG ago and they would be the ones forced to steal to survive.
and they would be the ones forced to steal to survive.
The government has some things it is mutually beneficial for it to do. However, when the government tries to dictate how private entities should be run....either by cafe standard, laws, or outright written agreements like being talked about now... thats across the line. Government never shrinks... all business cuts back in lean times, but government never does. Lean times flow downhill in privately held business...and that is an undeniable truth of life regardless of who is in office or what agreement has been signed.
In some ways politicians do steal to survive... ask Rod Bagoyovitch.
