Heres a pic playing with Kelly in the snow, she loves to chomp the snow when I throw it at her! These are way to small to see, but they are of the overhead display saying ICE and 20*. Hey Cris, yours ever said ICE before???
If you are anywhere in the Northeast you can pretty much forget things getting better for a long time. I'll bet you don't have a real bad illegal immigrant problem there though. Even they're smart enough not to go where taxes have shut down almost everything.
That reminds me that I finished my Christmas shopping today!
Made a trip to Cabela's and finished it right off.

New York State is in BIG TIME trouble. They're in more debt than they know what to do with. They're in a government jobs hiring freeze and they've already had a round of layoffs and are going in for another.
I'm in CT, which I hope you all know is next to NY, and things here aren't drastically different on a local level. The town is doing just fine. They haven't had to lay off any DPW guys or anyone. The hiring freeze is just state employees in CT. Or at least that's how I understand it. New York and the CT counties that border NY are some of the hardest hit areas. However they were the ones who were filthy rich to start with that were the Wall St. investors.
Anyways. I'm sick of politics. I'm done talking about them.
My state is in a hiring freeze and is planning to lay off a few thousand employees. That means picking up trash is not an option. Any private trash companies are hurting right now too because most supplied a large number of cans to construction and renovation companies who aren't working right now. I mean there is a little work, but there's not enough to go around.
Yea there are a few jobs out there, but not the kind that could support a family. I'm not condoning thievery, but I know that if I were put in a position where it was steal or starve I would steal.
Yes the guy could do his best to find a job, but that doesn't mean he will get one and even then he's got to wait until a check rolls in.
Plus if someone is really so destitute that they are stealing food to survive they likely don't have a car to deliver pizza and they probably aren't even up to the low McDonald's hygiene standards.
My family has a construction business and things are SLOW on the private end of things. Even the number of government contracts available has dropped. Most of our work is municipal work so we haven't been hit as hard as the guys who do most of their work in the private sector. There's companies that have been major players in my area for the past 20 years (I'm told. I'm not that old) that are doing major downsizing or shutting down.
I know what you're saying. The difference is, if I was starving, I'd find a church, soup kitchen, etc. to find something to eat. Knifing someone just isn't an option!! Maybe that comes from my experience vs. yours, maybe it's a generational thing that Mark is hinting at. I remember the stories my Grandfather told me about the depression -- you want to see hard times, look there. Yes, some folks resorted to stealing, but I also remember hearing stories of folks/families working their ***** off for a menial wage instead. I guess my Grandparents and Parents instilled in me something that just would not allow me to steal from someone else. That is that it's wrong to steel. Period. No ifs, ands, or buts. On top of that, I just couldn't get around the guilt of knowing how **I** feel when someone steels from me.
EDIT: I guess I better be done with this subject. I don't want either of us getting in trouble.
What a frigging day!! I helped a buddy pull the head off a toyota. Then went to a xmas play. Left there and went to a family night for my high school welding teacher. Great man and a member of the armed services. Then on the way home from that I watched my nephew's truck burn up. He hit some loose gravel and hit a gaurd rail. He's fine but he will probably be walikng for awhile. My day didnt even get started until 12. With that folks, I'm out, holler at you guys tomorrow.

I never said I would cause someone else bodily harm. And I wasn't thinking of being on the other side of the soup kitchen line. Yes I volunteer at the soup kitchen.
The only time I could ever intentionally cause someone else bodily harm would be if the were either
1: Invading my home
2: They intended to cause me bodily harm
Anything short of that I wouldn't be able to live with myself.

Definitely jealous of that snow! We havent gotten a snow like that here in years. I think I might have been a junior or senior in high school. Hopefully this year will bring us some snow!
The cat hates my brother's dog. The cat is gray so he sits at the top of the basement stairs with the door open a crack. When the dog sticks her nose into the door to try to play with the cat she gets chased by the cat. The cat chases the dog about 5 or 6 feet then rubs himself against the walls and goes back to the basement stairs.
Moral of the story: If you have any current pets make sure the current pets will get along with other animals before you bring them home.
