Glad you had a great trip out to see Randy. Hope you didn't hurt him too bad. !!
Not anymore than he was hoping for. On the way to the airport I asked him if it was enough to keep him happy for a while. He said yeah, for about three days. He's quite the catch. I did good on that one.
I apologize OT is struggling. I've been walking on eggshells all morning. For some reason the boss thinks he has the right to be mad at me this morning.

Funny how bosses expect people to slave away forever and not try to better their own lot, ain't it? I could see being disappointed to lose you but to be mad about it is childish. We all know they'll NEVER find a single person to do what you do for them, and he must know it too. Some people just don't get that a well-paid happy employee is invaluable to the success of a business.

In short, their loss and TOUGH SH**!!!
Indeed. Our best people have either left already, or are getting ready to. He doesn't care and he doesn't do anything to try and keep them here.
Brendan, Its easy to see you've been in the workforce for a while, you know how all this gameplaying goes. I gotta say, after about 5 years out here i'm tired of it already.
You guessed it. He's mad because I'm leaving, not because I did anything wrong. The really messed up part is that I spoke with him on Friday and he said everything was fine, and that he understood why I was doing what I am doing. I offered to telecommute from Iowa, I could do my job from there without any issues and with little assistance needed. He shot that down in a heartbeat, after all, I can't be micromanaged when I am 800 miles away.
I also think you're right that he realizes he won't be able to replace me easily.
I hate working for little dictators. I left a well paying job at a printshop after the son took over the business from his dad. His dad was very hands-off and trusted his managers to do the right thing for production and growth. The kid comes in and has to micro-manage every department and all decisions were funneled thru him for final approval. Needless to say, after 18 months of that BS, I walked. I'm better off anyway but it just killed me to see all my hard work to build a successful operation for them get shot to pieces.
I left my job as a hardware store manager 3 years ago because I was a glorified salesman on the floor. I was not allowed to make any decision without the owners approval. I loved my job otherwise. Oh well. Their loss in my opinion. Do what you need to do for yourself. Who else will look out for #1?

I realize this doesn't work for everyone, but this is why I became self employed. Yes, it's hard, dont let anyone tell you otherwise, but at least I know that everything I do is for the good of my family, not someone else. I had one boss that wouldn't teach me certain aspects to building a home because he said I would then leave him. I would have worked for him forever, little did he know. But the fact that he didn't trust me made his plan backfire and I now bid against him now and again. You can almost see the steam come out of his ears when he see's me now!
We had a micro manager here once. They called him the Production Manager. A few years ago they eliminated his position and moved him to a harmless position in Engineering. We made do without a Production Manager until about a month ago when I got the job.
Blah, i didnt get cleared to go back to work for at least another 2 months, most likely around 3-4 months. Seems like my previous job is the high end of the heavy work, and they try to make it so your healed really well before ya go back. Makes sense, less chance to reinjure.
I make good money from workers comp, get to work out 3-4 hours a day 3-4 times a week, but its getting really boring!
