It sucked. I think I could do it if I just had someone to show me how. It looks like a blast. I've picked up on most everything else I've tried before that I was new at, and been able to hold my own with a little coaching. The snowboarding thing was frustrating though because I just didn't know what to do or try differently.
Think of ripping the bike around the track: look where you want to go. Apply that to snowboarding and a little practice and you'll be linking turns in no time. Watch your feet and you look like this but turned 90* counter-clockwise (we've ALL done it, so no worries)
Most important thing when trying to learn, is figuring out your stance though. Some people have a goofy stance, some people a regular one, and some people have to really tweak their stance's.
Start on the bunny hill, its kinda sucky when ya see a bunch of little teenage girls that can whip by ya, but if ya start off small ya get alot less frustrated.
Good advice here guys. I started snowboarding by jumping on the lift and heading to the top of Mt Baker, which happens to be a very nice, yet difficult ride where we were. My "friends" ditched me immediately and I spent the rest of the day on my butt frozen trying to get down. Next time I went, I brought someone with that was a good teacher, and bam, about an hour later I was up and riding correctly. I guess moral of the story is get someone worth a crap to show you first, then maybe you'd get a chance to enjoy it. I still prefer wakeboarding, but I'm a water nut so I cant help it. Not too many things beat the view from atop a crystal clear mountain sky day though.
Mt baker eh, I havent seen that mountain for awhile now. Kinda neat, i used to live just on the other side of that mountain(well about a half hour from it)
My first time I went completely solo up to 7 Springs in PA, rented what I needed, and just went out & did it. I fell off the end of the lift the first time, did a faceplant a minute later, and had the MOST SPECTACULAR wipeouts & crashes all day. Seriously, the people on the ski lift were like "There he is! Watch this guy wipe! It's GREAT!!" It's just something I took to... but I don't mind helping out people, so let's go!!
Cool, it's a fun place. Whistler's really amazing too, but Baker is only 30 minutes for me as well. So I'm guessing you used to live around the Vancouver area?
Now see, I grew up waterskiing, and wakeboarding, and back then (80s) we called left foot forward goofy foot.
I have snowboarded twice, and liked it. it really is not that much different than wakeboarding,(except for not having the constant pull on your upper body from the towboat) watch your edges, and plant them with authority(IOW commit to the turn) and you will be good.
Where do you ski Chris? Did you get a pass this year? I've got the All Mountain or whatever it's called - Key, Breck, & A-Basin unlimited, but no Vail/Beaver add-on this year - watch, it'll be the year that Vail is epic.....
I haven't gotten a pass in a few years. Kids and work has cut into my free time unfortunately. My favorite spots used to be Winter Park, and the Keystone, Breck, A-Basin areas.
Yes brent i used to live near chilliwack. Loved climbing the mountains there, never did get around to doing any snowboarding or skiing there though. Did lots of 4x4in too.

Scott, I finally got the sampler CD on Friday. My player does not tell me the artists or titles but so far I have really enjoyed listening to it. Thanks again!
I still have my old pair of skis, boots, poles. I pretty much wore them out.
I used to go up to Steven's Pass weekly, whether anyone would go with me or not.
Never tried boarding, but it looks like fun.
