2" of styrofoam between the crushed gravel and concrete, would make a good frost barrier, help keep the feet warm. Not to crazy about those overhead furnaces but I have my insulated tool shed and was going to use that as a furnace and compressor room and have blower vents below knee level. Nowadays a person can eliminate a large portion of your actual shingles with a solar panel system and there may be a small tax break.
I don't have a heated floor but know a few people that have them, makes it really nice when you are crawling under a vehicle. My heater is one of those suspended heaters on the ceiling, it's only 2 feet square by 1 foot high and puts out 45,000 BTU. Heats up the shop in 10 minutes then you have to start turning down the thermostat depending on what you are doing, I don't like sweating and have to go outside in the winter...lol
Properly prepped and built, I can see this as not to expensive a place to heat, it's the hydro bill that I worry about mostly. Think I would go with a propane jetted furnace, that way I can put it on a RV and go on tour when it gets really cold.
There's a hairy biker house a few blocks from here and they have a small 4 x 8 double sided trailer unit that can supply a fair amount of power. Built it themselves and they say it paid for itself in about a year and it's convenient as hell. Last time buddy Dwight was here he showed me the basics of putting together a system, got to be carefull how you handle the raw collectors and you need to test your work and need to know how to solder. All your doing is basically linking panels together, soldering and placing them in a painted, sealed frame and covering with clear plexi and frame it in. Not as hard as it seems, guys like us can do it and so can stoners.
Just got offline from chasing down solar panel how to's. DIY is good for recreational or small personal project but not for large projects unless your ready to lay out money for real materials. If your going to put them on your roof and want to save money on the installation, buy manufactured sealed panels, do not make that part yourself. Basically, stay with a maximum of 4 panels if it's a DIY project which is the size of the bikers trailer.
Hi Morris, don't think I could handle fuel oil with my lungs
How was your day besides chilly
I never had any problems with a fuel oil furnace yrs ago, now I not so sure. I actually like the smell of diesel exhaust on a cold morning.
Besides being chilled my day was great, a nice, new deck is up at my rental house plus I found a good home for one of my feral kittens that I raised from a bottle feed orphan.
Home improvements you can see are always the best ones.
Being a feral cat it should be a natural hunter, my 2 hunt as a team sometimes, little buggers are really good at it. One goes into an ambush mode and the other flushes the victim out.
taping sure was cold on the finger tips, hope it's warm tomorrow
Good morning everyone, don't think it got as cold as they said it was supposed to last night, it was -6° this morning when I got up, they said -17° for a low..
Still a bit below 0 right now, says theres a high of 4 coming. Will be able to get the driver side clear coated but will wait to tomorrow to paint and clearcoat the passenger side as it'll be 7. Panel on that side wont get warm enough for the paint to hold due to lack of sun but it's supposed to stay at 0 tonite so that will stop it from getting to cold. Have lots of parts and pieces to do today so that'll keep me busy. Sure glad we get a wimpy winter out here.
Have a good church day guys
Good afternoon folks.
I like home improvements but I don`t have real any skills that.
True feral cats have to be good hunters in order to survive but I don't believe they will ever be comfortable around humans. I have feral cats that have been around for quite a few years and even though I have fed them daily I still can't get ever get lose to them.
While doing anything outside these days that requires taking my gloves off my fingers and hands get pretty cold.
It got to almost 3C today and it was sunny so not a bad day for late Nov. Tomorrow is supposed to be plus 4 with rain showers turning to flurries.
Likely this mild weather will turn a lot colder soon.
We've got 1 more day of good weather and then it drops back to normal, which is still pretty mild.
Drivers side got screwed up by the clear coat, absolutely no normal reason for it other than to make life difficult. Tremclad clear coat not compatable with Tremclad black when it's put on a part that has to get done in order to finish project, no other parts got screwed up and the surfaces were the same.
Sally was a farm kitten, has a bit of fight in her but sure spooks easy
