Ok I filled the HPOP again and plugged in the ICP just to try it?
It started ..............could it have been just low on oil?
Yes. If the HPOP reservoir gets low on oil it takes a lot of cranking for the LPOP to refill it. In mostst cases all that cranking wears down the batteries to the point where the PCM shuts down. Pcm needs at a very minimum 10.5 volts to operate. HPOP reservoirs have been know to leak and the level of course get to low to supply the HPOP. They can drain down overnight enough to cause a no start. Keep an eye on that oil level closely for awhile to make sure it is not draining. I'm sure glad you got it started. How is it running? Is it running well enough that you can drive it through that Stealerships showroom windows.
BAD NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had it sitting there idling and warming up , I was going to go for a drive and see how it was.
It quit.
I could hear something like water running , I went around to passengers side and every bit of oil out of the engine was on the ground?
Looks to have come from behind the starter somewhere?
It will die when it gets low on oil. That's a GOOD thing, and a safety factor. Certainly not "every bit" of oil was dumped. There's still a few quarts in it.
OK, let's find the oil leak. That will get you on the road again.
Start with putting enough oil back in it to be seen on the dipstick. Also, fill the HPOP reservoir to within an inch or so of the top. That will allow it to start so we can find the leak.

Hate to hear that. You just can't catch a break. Is the oil leaking on the top of the motor and running down in the valley and then to the ground? Just trying to think what else the Stealership might have left disconnected. I guess they get to keep there showroom windows for a bit longer. A good thing about these Powerstrokes is they will shut down for lack of a good oil supply long before they will burn themselves up.
Did you have an oil leak before your visit to the dealership? Wonder if they started disconnecting stuff thinking you were just gonna bend over for them to put a new HPOP on? Sounds like a line is off or disconnected.
It took a matter of minutes for it to pump that oil out on the ground.
It "gushed" from somewhere?
Its coming from behind the starter and it feels dry above the starter.
Its kind of hard to get under as its parked in the mud and now theres a huge puddle of oil mixed with the mud.
I looked up top and I cant see anywhere it came from.
It most likely from you HPOP or the lines coming from it. They may have removed a plug or line somewhere on the rails to install a test gauge and never put in back in.
So i cant see any lines off.
Is there a oil line to the turbo?
It has to be a major hole somewhere as it took only a few minutes for it to pump it all out.
When you say "on the rails" what do you mean?
The High Pressure Oil Pump has lines coming out of it and connects to the oil rails. the drivers side rail has the ICP mounted in it. There are also a couple of test plugs on each rail that is sealed with orings. Any of these can leak, break or come loose.
So what would your advice be?
I visually looked and cant see anything.
Should I fill everything up again and try and start it and see if i can figure out where its coming from?
Could they have taken the rear plug(s) out of the rail to check HPOP pressure. Not sure if that is the way to check it but worth a look to check for those plugs being in place. The plug is on both sides...straight back on the rails under/near the turbo parts. In Barry's pic above...you can see the drivers side on at the very top of the pic (gold colored) with what looks like a red line running near it. In Barry's case, he looks to have an HPX crossover in the plug...you would have what just looks like the head of a bolt. The one on the passenger side is directly across from the one on the drivers side. Easy to see if it is leaking...no need to remove anything so see it. Oil leaked from here will run down the back side of the engine pretty quickly. Maybe a long shot...but just throwing in my 2 cents. I had a small leak there last week and have had 2-3 small puddles every time I part until I fixed the leak and also all of the oil makes its way off the engine.
Look in your valley just under the turbo/pedestal assembly. I bet there is oil there as I believe your leak is up top. It drains down a hole at the rear of the passenger side of the valley from what we typically call an intake manifold on gassers. I am thinking HPO system leak somewhere. Check the whole valley and the HPOP area itself. Remember the fan will blow a lot of leaks straight back.
Good news is that you will have a simple leak fix when you find it as I doubt there is a hole in your block.
Scott, The #30 fuse, is that the one under the dash or in the engine compartment.
Rick
On my 01 it is under the dash on the lowest right hand corner of the fuse block. It is a 30 amp fuse. They are different on the 02 and newers IIRC. (but it might be 03)
Congrats on getting it started!!! If I were a betting man I would guess the stealer didn't put a test plug back in or they put the plug in finger tight and the 7.3 rattle shook it loose or they put a plug/line back in with the original oring and it f'ed to oring up.
At least you don't need an HPOP!!! (That could be a bad thing if you wanted big oil )
