This is a the HPOP. It is directly below th fuel bowl. Right below the IPR label is the plastic connector. That is what Brandon is talking about as to where the black connector with clip should be plugged into. This veiw is from the diver side fender. You will be able to spot the nut that holds the IPR solenoind over the IPR.
Chris, wouldn't extended periods of cranking cause the HPOP oil level to drop some. I'm thinking with you that the IPR is unplugged and it is not gonna start without out that plugged up.
I'm not sure what's unplugged since I don't do too well with colors. If the ICP is below 500 the truck will not start. I don't know why the dealer did not address that. Since they were kind enough to leave wires unplugged, I guessing that when they disconnected the HPOP lines to block off one head for the pressure check they lost some oil and never topped it off.
If you fill the HPOP to within 3/4" of the top, plug in the 2 wires that are unplugged, then unplug the ICP will the truck start?
Edit: If one of the plugs is to the fuel bowl heater I'd leave that unplugged for the test to make sure the previously mentioned fuel bowl heater isn't an issue. Go ahead and check your fuses if the oil & ICP doesn't do the trick.
Dont run away guys I didnt get much done today but Im going to give all your ideas a whirl tomorrow.
I havnt ordered the pump yet until I try your ideas.
I have 3 diesels sitting in my yard and none of them run.
We needed wheels so i dug our Ranchero out of 2-3 ft of snow today, put a battery in it and fired it up.
I have another truck on a jobsite 80 miles from here that Ill have to go get.
I have 7 Fords and the only one I can drive today is the 78 Ranchero?
Well if you'd just get an 8th one that's 10 years older than the Ranchero I could get you running with a pair of pliers, a screwdriver, a coat hanger, and the foil wrapper from a pack of cigarettes.
My enigine bay looks nothing like that... But mainly because its cover in dirt... People ask me if those wires are suppose to be different colors... and i tell them that im sure they are! You just cant tell. hahaha
I just got reading my quote from Ford a little closer.
What and where is a "Injection Pressure Sensor"?
They have one of those on the quote for $275.00
Plus a harness for it for $30.00
Plus labour to change the above at $95.00.
Checked or replaced? (Like I said, mine was bad, but didn't look it) It was worth a shot. It is only a $0.10 part as opposed to throwing $50-100 parts at it
They must charge $95.00 an hour for labour. Not that it would take that long to replace it and splice in a pigtail that they are calling a "harness". This Stealership certainly is into revenue enhancement in a big way.
