Update ...............
The service manager says the pumps going to go soon.
He wanted to know if I would drive it for a week before I got my money back.
He seems to think they are right so i guess we will see as I gave him the week he asked for.
I offered to give him a link to this thread but he didnt want it.
So Ill print it off and keep it for reference.
He says cranking the truck tops up that res everytime?
Then it drains down again.
He agrees it probably needed oil but that was only because some leaked out when they worked on it.
So i guess I will just drive it for a few days and see what happens.
Ive got that new ICP coming.
If the pump is "leaking" down whats the fix for that?
Thanks again for all the help.
Didn't he have anything to say about everything that was left disconnected?
How is it starting and running?
Cranking will fill it but it should be full before you ever start cranking. If its too low the cranking needed to fill it runs down the batteries and it won't start.
One place the HPOP reservoir could be leaking is between its base and the front cover which its mounted to.
Here's a diagram. The leak could be between 1 and 18 and leak down inside. You may not see an external leak. Just keep an eye on the level and go from there. Good Luck
Wont be much of a update until next Monday.
Thats when Ford will decide if they are going to give me my money back.
The Ford guy says its going to quit before Monday.
Im off to the next town this morning (75 miles away) so if you dont hear from me by tonight I guess the Ford guy wins!
Ive been checking my HPOP oil before I start my truck.
I added a little bit this morning but my engine oil dipstick looks like it is getting fuller?
Should I be starting the truck first then shuttting it off before I check the HPOP oil?
No. If the truck starts it will refill the HPOP reservoir on it's own. If the oil drains down from the HPOP it will make the level rise on the dipstick. If you keep adding oil to the HPOP you will eventually end up with too much in the motor.

Great advice Chris. I never considered how repeated filling of HPOP would affect overall oil level. From what Ken has said the HPOP appears to be draining down alright. This could possibly be the original problem all along.
So made the 150 mile round trip without any problems.
Im sure my oil level on my dipstick has gone up.
Why would the oil be draining down?
HPOP needs replacing?
Your HPOP will not make oil. It will allow it to drain out of the resy. Check your oil level in both you oil pan and HPOP resy. first thing in morning, before starting. If you HPOP is less than 1 inch from top, it's fine. If has drained down overnight and you add oil to the HPOP the you will see an increase in overall level. If it is draining down, it is probably a check valve and can be replaced. I would think that a bad HPOP would not have let you take a 150 mile trip and show no signs of failure.

Ken,
See post 166. Best advice I can give. The HPOP reservoir may be what is leaking. The reservoir should be continuosly refilled by the low pressure oil pump. Others will respond. Like Chris said if you repeatedly refill the HPOP reservoir you will overfill the pan. The leaking reservoir drains into the engine and eventually to the pan.
As mentioned, either the check valve or o-ring could have developed a leak. I guess the first question is how much does it drain down overnight and how much oil do you have to add?
The HPOP oil supply is a part of your regular engine oil, so if it is just draining down to 1" below the top and you keep adding oil, the level will self regulate back down to the 3/4" to 1" range. If it's leaking down more than an inch from the top we'll see if we can help you isolate which part is leaking.
I dont think its going down more than 1".
Ill have to measure it in the morning.
Ive probably added a cup of oil in the last 2 days.
It was down about a inch yesterday so I added and then this morning it was down about1" so I added again.
I add oil with one of those gold squirt cans that are about 4" high by 2" around. So Ive added 2 of them.
I think he added more the first time to get it filled up.
Vinford. If it's only an inch down try starting the truck without adding oil. It's supposed to be 3/4" to 1" below the top. Overfilling it just pumps it back into the oil pan.
Either way 150 mile round trip doesn't exactly sound like you should have dropped a couple of grand at the dealer. Join date of Aug. 2004. I'm sure glad you decided to stop back by for a visit before getting out your checkbook.
The oil level in the HPOP was down a little over 1/34 inches from the top.
I didnt ad any and it started Ok.
Guess ill just leave it for another day and check it again tomorrow morning?
