I agree with Barry. When you go talk with them have your laptop with you. This thread has to be very convincing.

And I can just hear them snickering and saying "he'll be back". Little do they know how much Ken has learned in the past 4 days. He has a lot more ammunition now.

I agree with Barry's advice. I know it will be difficult but try to remain calm when you talk to the owner. Remember when you start telling him the amount of your estimate, then inform him the ICP is the problem and the IPR is cross threaded and causing an oil leak, he will have no idea what you're talking about. He will be more inclined to listen to well presented facts with technical details than someone who is just ranting.

Of course that's easier said than done, and I must say you've been handling this pretty well so far. If this had happened to my truck I know I'd be madder than he**.

Good luck and keep us posted. Remember we'll be here to help no matter the outcome.

Calmness is going to be the key. I doubt I could do it, but try. Present him with the facts as you know them now. Inform him that prior to this post you knew very little about the truck engine or you would never have had it towed there. Tell him you now know that there is no way for the IPR to have cross threaded itself or for a major oil leak to start while engine was not running during the period it was at the shop. Point out that any real diesel mech would have found the oil leaking through the ICP sensor and figured out that was probably the problem, corrected it and rechecked. You never gave permission for the repairs, only to find out what was wrong.
You need to give him or her the chance to make it right. I think if he has a chance, he may make it right. Take your computer or print out this thread, highlight the major points. Let us know when you plan on going and we may can be here to help in his education. Use the treat of naming his dealership as a last resort. Flaming dealership seem never to work out well for either party involved. Good luck and keep us posted.

Again, I don't think I would touch it. If you do, it will be hard to prove you didn't crossthread it. Let it go until you talk to the dealer.

High pressure oil test block off heads test for leaks. Ok
Dead Hi-prepump still at 230 psi needs2500-3000 psi
Remove and test IPR-ok
Noticed ICPsensor leaking oil and connector contaminaited.
Push truck out of shop.

So thats what they did.
That's the part I've had trouble with all along Barry. The ICP was at 230 and they knew it was oily. The first recommendation should have been "We need to put in a new ICP".

It is interesting they noted Remove and test IPR. I guess dealer documentation can be a good thing.

Yep, that was my thinking all along.(see post 24). He's already give them $300+ dollars only to screw up his high pressure oil system. It is very likely that if the IPR is crosstheaded, it may have damaged the pump housing to the point in needs replacing.

If fuel wasn't 4 bucks a gallon, we could do a diesel rally in BC, say at the local dealership.

Nothing important to add, but on ford-trucks.com they would be flaming all of you!!! There will be no bashing dealers...I hope all goes well for you and I have a feeling the owner will do his best to help you. If he doesn't GO BIG OIL!!! It is only money.

I don't think anyone has bashed any dealers, only the guys that worked on his truck. No names have been mentioned and the owner is not nearly as PO'd as some of us that know what he may be looking at.

Look at the bright side (so we don't spend all our time getting pissed). We now have another powerstroke owner who is starting to understand how his truck works and won't be taken advantage of again. I'm guessing this wasn't a diesel tech that was doing the work. I'd kind of like to see the look on their faces when he walks back in and starts talking about how they should have replaced the IPC based on their tests, and how he would have had the truck running by now if someone hadn't cross threaded his IPR. They might start looking around for the TC camera thinking it was one of those news stories.

Ok its not cross threaded only loose.
I can turn the socket with my fingers but can't get a ratchet on it.
The deep socket I have and its the deepest one I could find goes on to far.
Im going to go back to town and see if I can find a crowsfoot wrench and try that

As far as the dealer is concerned , you can bet Im going to have words to say to them and about them if I get this thing up and running.
I have 6 or 7 Fords and am a contractor in a fairly small town and have been here for 5o years and know lots of people so Im thinking the dealer may listen to my side and give me my $300 bucks back.
But first I want to get it running so I can drive it to there front door.

What does "GO BIG OIL " mean?

I know we were not bashing the dealer (unless he doesn't come through). I am just saying the guys on "the .org" would have gotten pretty sensitive by now. I said, "My truck just got back for the stealer for the CPS recall..." and the next two people yelled at me and told me how I shouldn't "bite the hand that feeds me" and told me they were going to black list me and nobody would ever help me on the forum...I though that was a little...sensitive???
