Any tips for cab removal without a gantry or tractor? I’ve seen one photo of a crew cab being lifted with an engine hoist and 4 chains going to the cab mounts.
Any one else done this? I may be getting a cab in a few weeks and have no way to unload it besides my trusty engine hoist.
I've seen pictures of it being done with a couple 2x4's or 4x4's run through the window openings and then chain around the ends of that going to an engine hoist. Has to be a pretty tall engine hoist to get it on or off of a rolling chassis though. The engine hoist way seems to be more of a way to slightly pick it up off the ground and move it around or START the raise of it to get it high enough to get a chassis under it.
The day my dad sold the truck The day I bought and brought it home. About 24 years later. Rusted roof, no interior, supposed to run but currently only turns over. Cummins swap, super duty axles, snowden seats and a lot more coming up. Hopefully by next summer this truck will be back on the road!!
The new seats are on the way for this truck. Truck is at the body shop getting rust repair and roof repaint. Full superduty swap sitting in the garage on standby as well as a 97 cummins 5 speed 4x4 donor truck in the driveway.
Hello
I have a 79 F250 4 Door Truck. It has what I believe a short bed and a guy wants to buy the bed. (he does not have a crew cab) The truck cab is really rusted bad I think it to be unfixable. Would it be better to sell the bed to him then part it out or try and sell the truck whole as a parts truck. The driveline is complete 460 Motor and I am pretty sure it ran when parked years ago. Been hanging on to it for years but unfortunately it is time to let it go.. Thanks If I posted this in the wrong place sorry.
These crew cabs are bringing crazy money right now. Someone may try & fix even that cab. If you want it gone it may be worth trying to sell. That being said the crew cab specific parts (rear doors, door panels and exterior trim) on that truck are money makers if you part it. Pretty much everything else is just stock parts like any other 70's truck. The good news for you is 70's truck parts are worth a looooooot more now than 10 years ago. At least in my area.
With the rot that has in the roof area it would be hard to bring that one back. You’re better off selling it piece by piece
If you have the time. The Crewcab specific pieces are valuable. I am finishing my build and still looking for a couple pieces. If you do part it out, please let me know. I am interested in purchasing a few things. I’d be interested in purchasing the whole thing, but you’re too far up there for me. Thank you.
Hi, This my Crew, It's a 98 8.3 Cummins/Allison 5 speed combo. It has 9800 miles on it! It run very good and shifts great.

Sorry wrong place
I don't think a complete list exists of what is "different" about a CC.
Cab
Frame
headliner
carpet
rear doors and parts (door panels, door pulls, hardware)
exterior trim on post between F/R doors and rear doors
Interestingly, that prob covers 90% of it.
It's a longer frame, stretched cab with mostly std cab truck parts and pieces bolted to it...including sheetmetal, bed, drivetrain..etc.
Thank you very much for the reply I am going to pull it out of the woods hopefully in a couple days. Get better pictures and then figure best way to sell it. I already have my Dada supercab so I will part with this crewcab.
I got a closer look at the truck and it is worse then I thought, the roof skin is completely gone and driver side floor boards. I wont be able to pull it out for a couple weeks due to harvest. It does have a 460 with a Automatic I believe to be New Process 542-fl 5 direct speed and a Dana 60 354 gear. The 460 did run when parked years ago and under hood looks pretty complete. I was wondering about the bed how bad can it be to be sellable?

@ChaseTruck754 _ _ I agree with you. These crew cabs are bringing high bucks if a clean restoration and effort.
I have passed on so many affordable CrewCabs since building mine in 1996 thru 1998 completion. It is a mix of pieces and parts.
Ok, just for grins: I built up my '77 Crew before digital camera and iphone or internet. Therefore, no photos. Ha
@Fair 96
My recommendation is to post that in the Marketplace section here in the forums to give it some exposure. Sell it complete
There will be someone with the capability to section out that roof and rebuild it.
I would give it a good pressure washing, and fire-up the engine using remote fuel supply first. Remove valve covers to tap open all valves to check if you have any that are stuck from sitting. This will prevent bending pushrods while turning over the engine if having a stuck valve from sitting.
A good 18cfm @ 90-psi compressor and a sandblast post will have that thing sparkling and ready for the mig welder and patch pieces. A section of a newer crewcab would be a wonderful donor to restore that cab.
I went shopping for a rear passenger side door, and had to buy a F350 Crew cab-and-chassis to get the door. hahaha
So, I then used my non-rust F250 2wd cab on the longbed F350 chassis, and used the door.
