I know it’s a long shot. I am in need of the interior rear door panel trim/insert for later 70’s Crewcab with hopefully the metal trim that came in XLT’s. Don’t need the door panels just the insert. Cloth doesn’t have to be in good shape as I am changing it anyway but would like the trim in good shape. I have a couple sets of the plastic ones and the chrome is peeling.
I believe the 78-79 had metal trim with woodgrain down the middle and with metal tabs that fold over to secure it. I know the fronts door trim is.
If you got a set you would part with please hit me up. I am getting close to finishing my build. Thank you.

As you know, those are like hen's teeth. I have been casually looking for the 78-79 xlt inserts for a while now. I imagine most of the crews were customs, on top of that a little 2 year run for the 78-79's and only a few of them were xlt's, and we have quite an easter egg hunt on our hands.
I came to the conclusion that I would have to make the short version of the door panel racetrack trim, that we see on the full size door panels. They do look the same, just with a shorter 'nose' on them I think a metal longer trim one could be shortened and bent to work. I have only seen the plastic version of the racetrack trim for the rear doors though. I don't know if the metal trim exists for the rear doors like the full size panel trim does for 79'. I have seen enough front door panels though to know that the 78' and previous xlt panel inserts have plastic trim on them, while the 79's went to metal trim which was a nice improvement.
Can anyone confirm that rear door metal insert trim exists? If so, it would have likely been a one year only deal. (79')

For what it's worth, there is a guy on FB that has a company that is repopping rear door panels. He is a member of the 67-79 Ford group. If can find the name I will update this post. I talked to him about repopping rear doors and he is already looking into it.

Got the name of the company, it's battlebornbrakes.com
When restoring my '77 Crew, mine is a Custom, not XLT, and has the plain plastic panels looking just like those shown.
On the rear of the original panels, there is a hole which can be used to center a drill and drill thru the panel to then attach to the door with screws. Basically, the hole lines up with the door shell hole that receives the retaining clip.
To attach the panel with screws I opted for those white poly square hole inserts from Dorman.
To insert the square inserts, the hole for the panel clip must be squared up with a triangle file.
As a result, my door panels no longer must be Pried Loose from the door shell. And, with the poly clips, the screws don't jiggle loose either. Ok, this was all a "Greaser" experiment Because:
I originally used Nut-Serts on the drivers door, and don't like them. The machine screws jiggle loose.
Remember, we are talking petrified plastic, so no over-tightening of screws allowd. _ _ _ right !
Ha, clear back in 1996 when sourcing parts for my "build", I had to purchase a beat up cab to get a rear door. yessir.
A bonus, was, the cab came with a longbed F350 2wd chassis. I had to supply the rear Dana 60 to move the treasure.
The '77 F350 Crew came from the factory with a Dana 70 rear and single tires, not duals.
Could someone post two photos, one of rear panel and one of matching front panel as a Comparison of differences ?
I wanted a belly tank, so sourced one from a 2wd shortbed Crew and moved the frame brackets over to my chassis.
Because I used a Standard cab longbed box, it has Fuel Doors too. _ _ _ bonus for the belly tank.
The rear fuel door on my long-box is now just a decoy w/ no filler tube. I'm not concerned and nobody cares. haha
Note, if mounting a '77 or later standard cab longbed box onto a narrower Crew chassis, the original two front holes line up with the top flange of the chassis side rail. With box positioned to personal satisfaction, the two front holes can be drilled and tapped for the original bolts. I used fine thread bolts.
For the rest of the box attaching bolts, I utilized the factory holes again and made nice receiving perch brackets welded direct to the upper side of the chassis rails and attachment is made with thru-bolts and nylock nuts.
To look inside the box, you'd never know it was from a standard cab unless a genius with measuring tape. LoL
Just a few little pointers to make things work from a mis-match mix of pieces and parts. From 40-feet it all looks original.
Now I'm gonna have to check out the website for those new RePop Panels. Someone is looking out for us.
I messaged the guy that is repopping the panels and told him to start repopping the rear doors. He's looking into it but said cost will be the biggest deal. We'll if anyone needs rear doors then they will almost have to pay good money to get new ones if they want to finish they're project.
My old 75 crew that I purchased came with this box. It's a f27 shortbox, so 2wd. Marti report says it was a cab and chassis from factory. Does anyone know of any other dentsides with a box like this on it? It's currently in very rough shape, unfortunately!
I used to drive a '65 F-100 for the school district (light blue over bright yellow [former US Navy vehicle?]) with the same box.
Mine had a pipe rack welded to the top corners of the boxes, with a vice mounted on the bumper where your pipe flange is located.
These service bodies are surprisingly easy to work out of; if l recall, the middle doors open flat to provide a nice portable work surface.
If you are thinking of replacing it, a nice flatbed would look great on your orange '75 until you can find a factory short box.

Haha, I've been looking for a factory short box for 2 years!
