Hey guys,

I got a Ford F1 1950,and want to install powerlock.
The problem is that all the kits are with a spring that pops in and out.
This doesnt work for the lock I got.
So my question is;
Does this powerlock motor rotates 90°,and is it possible to move it then to 180°?
The thing is that my lock is 1 metal bar that slides.
The position of the handle on 0° is locked,90° is loose, and 180° is open.
So the regular kit doesnt work because of the movement from 90 to 180°.
Hope you understand my explaination..

Thumbs up

I applied this fix to all five locks on my Excursion, and it worked for every one of them. Just posted a writeup in the Ex forum on how I did the rear one, and there are lots of pics of the actuator disassembly if anyone's interested:

Love it. It took a while and some old plastic broke. I did find my motors were quite worn and I would have to replace them soon if I was keeping the truck. THe brushes had worn into the shaft quite far.

I will definitely do this again on several of my friends trucks now. I have not used the remote in so long I forgot how nice it was.

There is left and right ones and the stock ones allow hand unlocking unlike an ebay one I tried, that's all I can tell you.

Locks

I have a 2002 E350
My door locks all quit working, the other day, only the key will lock them and pushing the manual buttons down.

Wouldn't simply replacing the resistor, after cleaning things up be a better way?

These look like the Mabuchi motors that we used to use on slot cars, can aftermarket replacement motors also do the trick?

I searched the Mabuchi site and found this.
http://www.mabuchi-motor.co.jp/en_US...fc_280pcsc.pdf

If these can be sourced cheaply enough, it would be a quicker job, just to replace the motor.

If the resistor is bad, why not replace it?
Motors are less than $5 each and don't require any service inside the motor.

Wrapping a resistor with foil sounds too much like wrapping a fuse, or putting a penny under a screw-in fuse. It can cause other more expensive issues down the road.

Because they are heat sensitive and they wear out in a couple years. They can even cause doors to not lock on hot days. They are not the average fuse.

I thought we were talking about a resistor, not a fuse.

But you compare them with a fuse, they are actually a thermistor which is heat sensitive and they wear out. Just do the fix and be done with it.

Mine lasted 10 years, so my question is still, why not replace the thermistor, rather than mousing it with tin foil?

Most peoples' last only a few years. All 5 of mine were bad, They get lazy and barely lock/unlock after a while. I took them out and crammed tin foil in there and now they work with a positive "whack:......much better. Also they get sensitive to ambient heat and are worse on hot days.
