MPG Report

I tried out the truck with the SCMT in the Economy mode this weekend, truck unloaded, on state highways (55 MPH limit) running 50 to 60 MPH. I took off slow from each corner and tried to keep the EGTs between 500 and 700 degrees at all times. At only 700 the truck does not get up to speed too quickly. I drove 260 miles and topped off the tank before and after which figured out to 18.5 MPG. I think I could milk another mile or two out of it if I tried, slowed down a little more, slowed going up hills etc.

I am going to try towing my trailer (12,000 pounds) in economy mode this weekend to see if it is better than Tow Mode.

Still very happy with the chip.

Tom

I will be very interested in the EGTs. I am looking at buying the SCMT, I will be towing to OK from CO in the next couple of weeks towing a 4 horse trailer with living quarters (see Gallery). If yours looks good it will help me decide.

Thanks
Bob

Very nice rig, we will all be interested in the MPG.
What does the trailer full weigh?

The gross loaded is 12800 lbs. This trip it will be about 10,000 lbs (three horses, and camping gear). I've been trying to decide on a tuner, and I like the EGTs posted with the super tuner.

Cool trailer Bob, I never owned a horse worthy of riding in such a trailer. Your horses must be something.

I gave the wife a choice a new vehicle or the trailer. She chose the trailer, then I needed a new F350 to pull it.

lastly, will I loose anything performance wise with this update and what are the specifics of this update? Is it simply a trans file fix in the econ mode for firmness?

thanks for your help!
This is not an "update", it is a case to case basis as it is more a matter of preference than anything.

I will make adjustents to your shifting and shifting only.

Hi Vic. My unit's on the way back -- if not already there -- for rough shifts at light throttle in economy mode.

A related issue is when I disengage the cruise control: I have a very serious "bump" all through the drive train. Will the planned tranny program tweak address this as well?

You say this change is to address a preference. With all due respect, who would want this behavior? Or, do you mean by preference, that those running in performance mode don't experience this?

There are many (in fact most) running the ECON mode that don't experience this. Some prefer a firmer shift than others and some trucks shift more firm than others.

What speed are you disengaging the cruise at and have you tried it at different speeds?

I will try to duplicate the situation.

When make a change to your tuner, it will be to YOUR engine/tranny files. I'm not making global changes here since 99% of the shifting feedback is great as it is and I don't want to make other trucks shift too softly or too low at part throttle.
