Here we are. It slid onto the pin after I cleaned it up. I had a durr moment, the cam thrust plate was on backwards so when I was spinning it it would have a hard stop at one point. Flipped it around had no issues. All bolts had locktite.

Is this how the fuel pump eccentric looked before you took it apart? I doesn't look right to me.

I have a different engine, but it uses a two piece eccentric and it didn't look like that.

that is not correct, you're right.

Might be the cam dowl holding it up or the tab out of the slot, whatever it is that's not going to work.

That's better.

Things like that happen, but good it was caught now. Keep posting pictures, it never hurts to have multiple eyes on to catch little things like that.

Regardless, this is how you learn and hopefully avoid the same mistake in the future. Instead, you get to make new and more interesting mistakes.

Every single poster here has made little mistakes like that too, and if they say they never have, they're lying.

Maybe we should create a thread of silliest automotive mistakes you've ever made? That could be good for a laugh.

The mistakes I "love" the most, is when you start into something knowing full well it is a bad idea, but with the hope it just might work out...in the end, the worst case scenario you thought would happen, does happen and you to fix the mistake you knew you were making when you did it.

Quick update, it's going to be longer than I thought, seems like the cost has caught up to me...
The machine shop called, said the heads are in super bad shape, said it would be almost 400 dollars for them to be in good shape. Keep in mind, the block machining was only 330 bucks..

$400 is getting by cheap. I usually plan on $600-$1000 for a set of heads.

That's why the leap to new aluminum heads isn't all that huge.

If originality isn't an issue they'd be worth considering.
