Don't forget to prime oil pump with drill shortly before the first fire. I don't know about FE's, but on 429/460 a 5/16 socket with extension down in distributor hole on the oilpump drive shaft does the trick. Drill runs in reverse
I recommend leaving dizzy off for install so nothing gets broken
Yeah. I used my electric ratchet which will get the pump to around 50 psi before it starts to ratchet so ill need a drill. Oil came out of rocker arms so I think we are solid.
Been having one hell of a time trying to get the engine in the mounts and on the input shaft of the transmission. Haven't been able to get it yet. The closest i've been is in one motor mount and half way into the tranny.. I've been jacking up the bell housing as well but haven't had any luck.. its quite awkward and heavy
Usually for me i end up jacking the bellhousing all the way to the firewall to take the engine mounts out of the equation.
Sometimes a ratchet strap to front of motor back to the hoist attachment point to raise it a bit can help if you dont have a fancy engine hoist adjuster thingie..
Put trans in gear so you can turn the yoke on the back of tranny to rotate input shaft to get splines lined up. Keep working it around different directions, use a pry bar to gently nudge etc. Once you get the trans mated put a couple bolts in it and snug up and it should drop down on the mounts.
This is exactly why I pulled the trans when I did mine and assembled as a unit. Check out Junkyard Digs from last Spring/Summer on youtube. They pulled and installed a 360 into a 69. Should be a close enough process to your truck. They went over how to get everything going easy enough. I watched that and said heck no, I'm pulling my trans with the engine.

Yeah. I've seen that video. I have a manual and I am pretty sure theres was an automatic
Most likely your clutch isn't lined up. and if you installed a new pilot bushing it's very likely the input shaft won't go in it.
Yeah. I've really been fighting getting the motor in the mounts. I can always get one in the mounts but for the life of me I can't get the other. I had them both in at one point but it got all jacked up trying to put bellhousing bolts in. My god its a nightmare.
Do you have a picture of the mounts and perches they go in?
I had to do a little finagling with my aftermarket 460 swap mounts recently to get her dropped in after i got the bellhousing mounted
i got it in today. I'll send pics when I'm home but the motor mounts were on the right sides just not in the correct orientation. Mated on transmission too. Little things left. Hopefully cam break in goes well
Well. I've heard it run a little bit. It carries 60 PSI of oil pressure. It seems to be a fight to get it running and it won't idle as of now. Itll run sometimes but then other times it wont at all.. I believe its a spark issue, accel pump seems to squirt plenty of gas.. took off one of the valve covers and not all the pushrods are spinning.. not sure if that's a big deal or not.
Funny enough, if this hyd. flat tappet cam doesn't work out I have the money to go full roller.. just wouldn't be sure what to go with..
It's already in the truck but putting a roller cam and lifters in is something I can do while keeping it in the truck. If anyone can throw out a roller cam and lifters that would work with stock valve springs (if that exists) that would be appreciated.
