WOW!!! I didn't realize there were that many fires in the Northwest!!! Good thoughts for the people of Stehekin and all in the path of the fires!!!
Unfortunately it has become a yearly occurrence. 40 years ago the states stopped managing and harvesting the forests, closed the logging and forest roads so there's no longer access into the mountains, everything is overgrown with brush, slash and debris, so any tiny spark or lightning strike turns into a giant disaster. It's sickening how the people in power have destroyed our beautiful lands and are wasting our precious natural recourses. Don't even get me started on the lunacy of their carbon taxes, cap and trade taxes, natural gas bans, gas costing a buck and a half a gallon more than yours all in the name of climate change, while they let our state burn polluting far more than my car or air conditioner ever will.
Another thing that makes me mad are how insurance companies are dropping peoples home insurance because they looked at satellite pics and determined yor house is a fire risk! I know of 3 people in Oregon that got dropped by their insurance because of fire risk!
Soo now for me since I'm on a chunk of property with lots of trees I'm planning to drop all the trees within a 110 foot radius of my house to make a defensible fire zone. I'm going to have boatloads of firewood if I don't send it off to the mills..... ooooh maybe I should get a sawmill!
Good morning WA...Happy Hump Saturday!!! Hope everyone has a great day!!!

Awfully expensive to do that type of maintenance...and...I'm guessing budgets don't allow for it. Maybe some sort of program could be put in place for low risk incarcerated folks could do it. We don't face those issues here...just some brush fires from time to time that rarely burn more than 10 acres or so. Fortunately it's been wet enough to prevent that this year...at least so far. Wishing all well!!!
Happy Hump Day Washington, Tim, Ken, Wayne, Ken, Steve and all the crew.
I hope everyone has a great day as the Humper and not the Humpy!
Another hot 95° day in my woods with plenty of sun and no rain again.

It's actually not expensive at all, at least not to tax payers. Prior to the current management plans, for over 60 years the state would lease the timber rights to major lumber companies like Weyerhauser, Boise Cascade, Georgia Pacific, etc. The private companies would cultivate the logs, replant the trees, keep the forest floor clean and help the forests grow, flourish and be healthy. Reports say Washington state never had a fire larger than 1000 acres from 1954 to 1984. The income the state received from timber sales is constitutionally mandated to pay for our schools, and it was more than enough. Today, we have several fires burning currently, many covering over 100,000 acres, nearly 60% of my property taxes go to the state to pay for schools and they still want more. It's much cheaper to maintain forests than to fight fires, (for which the budget is woefully inadequate, and the number one excuse the state gives for letting the forests burn) and the value of the lost timber is far more than the cost to preserve it. Forest preservation pays for itself. It's been done, so we know it can be done, they just wont.
Evening Tim, Wayne and Ken. It is hard to believe how blatantly this entire country is being allowed to perish. Meanwhile more and more laws are being passed to control the narrative and to prevent folks from expressing their views regarding their elected officials and their policies. I pray things can turn around, but it does not look very promising. I need not continue.
ThongTastic Thursday Washington, Tim, Wayne, Ken, Steve, Ken and all the crew. It is the Eve of the Weekend Eve and time to make plans for the Party. I plan to make it to 2200 but we will see! LOL
Looks to be another hot day at 91° and starting soon mostly cloudy. We will have to see what it actually feels like out this afternoon. Yesterday went beyond what the Soothsayers crystal ball predicted. It went well past their 95° prediction and 101° index. For an hour yesterday afternoon it hovered 99/100° and an index of 113°.
Here in WV we are still not in the path of Debby and no rain in the forecast!
Off soon to take Wifey for some Dental Surgery. I figure she isn't going to feel like doing much this afternoon and maybe the weekend!
