Nice Gen Evan, I lose power quite a bit out here off NW Scenic Dr, how does PPL do over your way during the storms?
We are hooked into the Brownsville power grid and lose power a few times a year. This winter we’ve had two outages that lasted 6+ hours due to people running their cars into poles or substations. Since we have three young kids we want to be able to keep the heat on if needed and keep groceries from spoiling. I opted for the dual fuel because I can store propane a lot longer than gas. I’m going to do a breaker interlock so I can plug right into the house and run the circuits I need.
Good morning Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Clear, frosty and sunny. Started out at 31.8 and we've dropped in the last 30 minutes to 31.4. Supposed to hit 53 today.
Wonder if you could get a deal on the damaged one Evan..?
They offered me 20% off if I kept it, but I didn’t want to risk it in case there was unseen damage. It was dented on the panels next to the main control panel.
Good evening Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Turned out to be one of those "Spring has Sprung" days.

Best insurance policy ever. Our Pellet stove can run on a computer style UPS or a 12 volt RV battery, although the room fan doesn't work on 12 volt. But at least you have radiant heat. We have to Big Buddy in door safe low oxygen sensor propane heaters. Then we went out and bought a 3500KW gen set for emergency power around the house followed a couple of years later with a camper upgrade that has an Onan Gen Set in it. I also have an inverter I can plug into the pickup.
The moral of the story is the more prepared you are, the less likely you are to need it. We've had one power outage that lasted 20 minutes since we had the 3 day outage that pushed us over the edge and into the "prepper" mode. Since then, we have a number of 30 second to 5 minute outages and have not had to use any of the emergency equipment. We do have to go out to the farm and take care of them every once in a while. A year before dad passed, they were without electricity for 8 days and the farm has had several 2 and 3 day outages. It's funny, the farm is only about 3 miles "as the bird flies", 7 miles by pavement and gravel, but they are the last ones to get power restored.

Evening all, great weather day around Albany today. I run a 3500 watt that produces 240V. I have it for the well and basic 120v needs. We seem to lose power 3-6 times a year and most of the time it is for 5+hours. I do the most basic back feed through the 30A dryer breaker. Works great, keeps the freezers going and the pellet stove running. Of course I shut the main off, then watch for neighbors lights to come on, then transfer back.
Howdy Folks........
Early morning here in Montana. Abandoned bed about 0300..... Neck and shoulder hurting too much to sleep....
Now that my back is healing from surgery and feeling pretty good...... My neck has to start acting up again.
Temps are a wee bit chilly..... 18°F right now..... expected to hit 36°F today.
Morning Roy, and all to follow and Happy FRIDAY! I try and do something every year to help when we don't have power. I started with putting a hand pump on the well, then a wood stove in the house. Then another wood stove in the house, one downstairs and one upstairs. The best upgrade was a Kubota GL 1100 (11KVA) Low Boy diesel generator with 60 Gal. tank. I fire that up and can run everything I need, and the wife praises me every time we use it. Ran it for about 30 hrs straight a few week back when we were without electricity. Best to always be prepared.
