Morning all. Pretty darn good weekend overall albeit a little chilly. I'm pretty sure I can put up with some cold if the political climate is better so I'm good with Montana too.
Wife and I even got in some range time yesterday amongst our other stuff. She finally got to shoot her new pistol. After a trip to my favorite gun shop Saturday, I finally completed my AR build and let sound of freedom ring...
Pretty nice shooter and very happy with it. Nothing like squeezing off the first few rounds through something you built yourself. Got it semi sighted in. At lease it seems to be hitting the general area I'm aiming at...if by aiming, means you're pointing at a paper target at 50yds that's covered up by the sight post. Probably going to put some sort of a red dot on it and will probably use it to hunt with. Can't wait to start the next one.
I got my Howa .308 out and shot some different ammo through it yesterday. Sighted it in with cheap Federal FMJ and then shot groups of 5 different hunting loads. The 165 gr Hornady SST was right on at 100 yards and grouped well. The 150 gr SST didn’t group as well and shot to the right. The 178 gr Hornady ELDX did not group well, and the 180 gr Federal Trophy Bonded Tip didn’t group great. The 165 gr Nosler Partition shot lower than the 165 gr SST due to slower velocity, but grouped well.
A problem I had with my groupings was not allowing tree barrel to cool enough. Even though it was cold out, I was limited on time and wasn’t able to let it cool down all the way between groups. The thin profile barrel on it heats up quick.
I’d like to try the Nosler Accubond, and probably choose between that and the Partition for elk this year.
After figuring out the ranging on my scope reticle I was able to smack the 12” gong, the 6” plate, and the 3” plate (twice) in four successive shots at 250 yards.
Good evening Oregon and everyone everywhere else. I got really good news today. The Demon-crats have introduced a bill to ban/outlaw leaf blowers and jail violators. I figure lawn mowers should be close behind. I sure hope so. Darn lawn and leaves have been interfering with my fishing for way the heck and gone too long now!
Go to sleep Roy, or are you just getting up?. Values will be going up as we all move out of Oregon because of the brainless leadership here. 24 when I left the compound. Need to cut wood this weekend, almost out of what I did.
