Good morning guys, happy Friday! Back off of vacation, had to come back early, my stepsons house got flooded last weekend, we had to come back and get it cleaned out, it's a freaking mess. So, he and his wife will be staying with us for a while.
Morning all. Foggy here too but it's already starting to lift.
Jim - Sounded like the issue was the law would have been illegal and meaningless anyway so they decided to do a resolution instead. As a govt type I can understand that but I believe regardless of meaninglessness...it was a statement to be made. They failed to do that. I find your assessment of Kulla interesting. While I can appreciate being overwhelmed since he's new, he needs to get is stuff together and figure it out. I wonder if the County does any sort of training or orientation with new commissioners? I know we do that sort of thing with new councilors if they are fresh. My guess is the county doesn't since they don't much of anything.
Good morning Oregon and everyone everywhere else. 40°, down from 41.
Working on Wardens birthday celebration. Taking her to Dallas to get her drivers license renewed! (If she is really good I might take her out to dinner afterwards.)

Yay for friday!
I had no problem with the assessment of the way the ordinance was proposed. Starretts proposed they work cooperatively with council and the Sheriff on an ordinance that made a statement to Salem and was workable at the local level. This was rejected. I still believe that the county council opinion regarding state law covering firearms was not entirely correct - way too broad - as to how it could be applied in this particular case. The statement and ordinance, properly worded, would have been just fine. State Law governing state control over firearms laws and restrictions allows for some variances and could be worked out. Multnomah County Ordinances, Section 15 is a prime example.
Ordinances (statements) identical to this passed in 6 out of 7 counties (promoted by the same group) last fall, including Linn County - believe it or not. The one county that voted it down was Lincoln County which kind of surprised me. As far as I am concerned they are not really enforceable in the traditional sense...but can be handled in the same manner the Sanctuary and Marijuana Laws are. Precedent has been set.
I fully agree, this one needs some work as it still is worded more as the initiative petition that passed in the 6 counties than a properly worded ordinance. Starrett made the proposal to work on it and then bring it back for further review next week or the week after - at the state level they call this and amendment to correct and is done on almost every bill. Kulla and Olson would not support that.
I also fault the group promoting this for getting in too big of a rush to change their agenda from IP's to straight ordinances. I think they are trying to beat the April 2 dump rumors. (Info out of Salem is that there may be a big "dump" - major scheduling for numerous anti-gun bills for April 2nd hearings). Still no excuse for not getting their act together or have a plan in place for amending prior to submission.
Yeah this is a big issue in the Newberg pool. Rodger's landing is the 2 most used boat ramp in the state, at least it was a couple years ago. These new wakeboats are crazy. Not sure how much you know about them but the new ones have huge tanks and displace a huge amount of water. Where I boat there are not many docks. Like everything else that is oregon, is there are simply too many people in too small of a space. Exactly why I have a jetboat so I can get away from most of them other than the ramps.

Well put, that's exactly how it is now. Lots of good bass fishing in Newberg, but just a lot of boats there. I find my way around the Willamette in the Albany area, my only traffic is the kayaks and paddle boards floating from Corvallis.
Good evening Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Got back from Dallas and the Warden's birthday dinner a little bit ago. Pretty sure I need a stomach pump.

I've only put in at Rogers Landing a couple of times in several years and none in the last 2.
I've kind of given the wake boats a cursory look strictly out of curiosity. We had three of them moor in a slip right next to us and across from us on one of our trips to Detroit Lake last year. One of them gave me a "tour" of their boat. They opened a couple of top deck stern hatches on the boat and it looked like there was enough space there to take the lake level down a good two feet when they filled them up with water. Must have been room in there for at least a ton of water if not two. I'm sure the space was big enough to at least match one of our 300 gallon stock watering troughs.
I wasn't real happy with them at Detroit, which is about the only place I've run across them. The log booms in place to keep the boat slips somewhat quiet were almost completely worthless. The big wakes just washed right through them. I actually put out 4 fenders from stern up to the bow including my two big orange ***** on each side of the bow. Then tied off cleats on both sides of the boat and cross tied the bow to keep the boat from getting knocked around in its slip.
I was amazed to see how big the tanks were on the little 17' maroon boat docked just inside ours. I would have thought they would latterly sink the boat by the stern if the filled them completely up. Even the swim deck on the stern had a big tank contained in it.
The other two didn't have tanks in the swim plate but they were obviously built to create a bigger wave behind it. You can see how big the stern tanks on the 2200 are. They take up a third of the deck space.
Apparently the crew in the boat on the other side of the 2200 Maxum had a run in with the Marine Deputy. They seemed to be very displeased and quite **** retentive over the encounter. They pulled their boat out of the water just after I took this picture and left it in the lot at the G Ramp. They did go back out with the people on the Maxum, but never put their boat back in the water.
Good morning Oregon and everyone everywhere else. 40.5 and overcast. That will make it fun for the Salem rally today. If anyone is going, I'm going to be around the NW corner of the sunken fountain across the street on the N side of the capital building around 1030. The yellow lot on Center street at the North end of the mall is a good place to park. $6 all day long and no meters to feed.
