Yeah, we put a lot of miles on this thing hauling 5 kids around to all their activities, traveling back and forth between TX/AR and I've been driving it to work a lot of the time since I did the swap. Had to buy a commuter car recently to cut the fuel bill down...
I noticed you switched out her hot rod in your signature.
Our kids have kids now so their doing most of the running now.
My F-450 stays hooked to a trailer doing farm work most of the time and as only seen 14,000 miles in 24 months.
Still have the Z71 but it's getting a lot of rust in the body, pulled the supercharger off in January, it's now her farm work truck.
Body shops wanted $8-10K to repair the rust and repaint the truck so we decided to upgrade.
Got a good deal on a 2018 F-150 STX lease return with 15K miles.
Because we've had so much rain and bad weather it stays in the shed most of the time, we've only put 1200 miles on it since January 5th, 600 miles was driving it home from NC.
Want to keep it looking good for a while.
Thanks! I've put some weather tech mats in, going to take the blocks out from under the springs to lower the rear a little, then add a Dual Line bed liner and maybe rear wheel well liners.
Want to keep it low for her and do a couple things to protect the paint and body, otherwise just enjoy the truck.
Few more years to get the poultry buildings paid for and we might come cruising your way.
So any ideas as to what size tires will fit with just the spring swap? I am getting ready to start this project, I have a rolled 2008 F250 as my donor.
- Steering is starting to get loose. I found the tie rods are getting pretty loose on all four positions. Mevotech was a middle of the road option on price, and I am not surprised I only got 40k out of them.
- My junkyard unit bearings lasted 36k. Went with Moog on the replacements last month.
- Track bar, surprisingly, is still super tight. The ball joint is almost as stiff as the day I installed it.
- I am installing the BD caster kit in the radius arms this week, and removing the caster sleeves from the upper ball joint. Also going to check the ball joints while in there. I am doing this for future ball joint longevity. I will be installing 0* caster sleeves during BD caster kit install. I'll report on that later next week.
- Both of my junkyard rear calipers died within 2 weeks of each other at 34k miles. Both had the pistons seize up. Those were the ones I did not rebuild...
I am going to wait on the Baja bar, but I think that is the one I will go with when this one wears out. I think all the wiggle (pre-cursor to DEATH WOBBLE) I am getting right now is from the tie rods, but I still need to check the ball joints when I remove the 2* sleeves. I went with all Moog replacements on the tie rods this time (I know they aint' what they used to be, but the Motorcraft are not serviceable).
Shocks are still super responsive (Motorcraft HD), and the steering damper is still stiff when I try to work it in and out.
