Will head gaskets accelerate your plan to Diesel swap it?

I'll ask in the other thread but does anyone want to meet up and have dinner or even earlier and make it lunch?

Potentially... I'm kind of in a tough place there. I don't WANT to spend the money right now and am considering just getting from A to B for now with the heater cores fixed, but if the Ex turns out to be in bad shape I'll have to start considering dumping barrel loads of $$ into this one to fix it so I can keep it, OR sell it for a big loss and start over with a 6.0 Ex that I'll end up probably needing to 20-25K into including purchase price before I'm happy with it.

Honestly, I'm leaning toward forking out the $$$ for the diesel swap even if it doesn't seem the most $$ smart move, as I don't want to dump lots into maintaining the V10 since it is getting tired anyway. I've got a lot invested in this Ex and both my wife and I would hate to see it go. Aside from the heaters not working and it overheating, I've got zero real gripes about it. Eventually the tranny would need a swap or rebuild, but I'd expect that anyway.

Cummins 24V and a Manual would be sweet.

Cummins swap...I think those two words are grounds for divorce in most states. That would be awesome (the engine swap, no the divorce part).

Sorry to hear you’re still chasing heater and cooling issues.

When you can’t do the job correctly the first time (or second...), give ‘em popcorn, coffee and free wifi

What are you having done? Les Schwab is one of the more expensive places around. Especially for brake work.

Well, I stand corrected. We thought Schwab broke a gasket in my four-wheel drive system when they installed my shocks a few months ago. But they have pulled both the L and R apart and confirmed everything is good. So now I’m back to trying to find a rubbing noise coming from the left-front side of the truck.

Guess I’m headed back to Discount Tire for a rotation to see if the sound moves/changes. Lovely

About as bad as when I took mine to the dealership in St Louis. My DEF was showing empty after overfilling it, Was down to 50 miles before it would reduce power, so the dealer kept it overnight then the mechanic put another quart in, charged me for 2 gallons then drove my truck around the yard slamming the brakes.

Freed up the sensors but boy did they just pissed me off.

I think I’m chasing a phantom. Tires are re-balanced and rotated and still have the prob. Back at Schwab again and they are going to put other tires on to see of that eliminates the noise. Having a hard time believing it’s my A/T tires, but I’m running out of ideas. Fun stuff

Yeah my old F-350 came up with a vibration after 1200 miles, took it back into Discount and found the right front had a flat spot. Changed the tire and went away.

On a separate note, I finally get to leave here the 22nd. Wife and I will spend a day or 2 up at Iguazu Falls in Northern Argentina. Gonna go pack up the Utah house and put it up for sale. Then we'll be down to one house.

Knock, knock...kind of quiet around here lately.

This time of year is always really busy for me with the kids starting school and all the sports/after school activities. I’ve got UberDad duties every day of the week for the next few months. When something is cancelled, we just backfill it with a Costco run or something else that’s not getting done. To top it all off, I was in China a few weeks ago, home for a few days and then in Las Vegas for fun. We normally like to plan our weekends month’s in advance so we can stay organized. Right now we’re operating on a reduced “the next 72hrs only” agenda.

Finally got the truck fixed. Took it into the dealership yesterday and they found the front wheel bearings were dry and worn out. Not sure how that happens in 24,xxx miles, but it did. They also claimed I had metal shavings in my brake pads and they scarred the rotors, so they machined the rotors and clean up the pads. Not sure that was really a problem, but maybe it just adds to the warranty hours. Don’t care either way, the truck is fixed.

You guys have weekend plans yet? I’m getting a new canopy on Saturday. My current one has had so many problems, the shop ordered me a new one. Hopefully this will be the last of it. If this weather clears up, I need to reinstall a bunch of mods that I took off before I went to the dealership. Need to remount my aftermarket skid plates and get my ForScan changes back into place. Then there’s a LED light bar that I need to install at some point, but that might wait for another day...

Happy Almost-Friday!

Packing up and getting ready to come home. Last day here is Saturday, so sorting through all the supurfulous junk from living here for 10 months. Loading Saturday after work, go to church Sunday and drop things off for members in need (clothes washer, drying rack, table, office chair, misc kitchen stuff), staying at the Howard Johnson in Neuquen Sunday Night, fly Monday, arrive at PDX noon Tuesday, wife arrives from SLC at 12:30 then headed for the beach.

Then all the fun really begins, change oil and coolant in the truck, drive to SLC, clean out Camille's house, put it for sale and drive back to the beacch.

Welcome back Eric? Sounds like you’re out of the fryer and into the frying pan.
