I need a little help. My dealer is claiming that a vin won't be issued until the truck is built, and he says they won't start building them until late August. I referenced the vins that have been issued here and he said you guys must have ordered '16s. He says he placed my order on May 17. How else can I find if a vin has been issued?
Byers - you are not alone. There are others, myself included, that ordered a 2017 back in May and don't have a VIN or Build Date. It seems that you might need a little inside help to get over the hump. Still working on that myself, I ordered a week before you and don't have any progress either.

REALLY?? He really said "you guys must have ordered '16s"?? What the....I'd be a little worried about making sure your order even got placed if ANYONE from my dealer made a comment like that after I had ordered a 17 and have seen VINs and build dates all over this Forum. AND if HE was the one that ordered it for you. Shaking my head....just shaking my head.

Take your order number and dealership number, use the chat on the ford.com website and let them look it up for you. They can give you as much information as your dealer could.

That's exactly how I felt. I hate dealing with uninformed salesmen.
North central ford, went through the fleet Dept. I would like to think Texas would get its fair share of trucks right out of the gate, hard to think of another state that would sell more. Curious on how they determine when, how many & how fast they ship to certain areas?

That is either an incompetent dealer or they are lying to you. I would be looking for a new dealership.
Every Ford dealer gets their factory build reports Thursdays, at which time you can see all the Ford vehicle orders. This is where you can find out your vin# and status. You get a Vin once your order has been picked up by the Ford factory. My dealer shows me this, and last time I checked they had 3 vins assigned, 2 of which had July build dates.(one is mine)
Your truck had to be ordered as a dealer stock with that dealers lowest priority number in order to get an early build truck.
I'm guessing almost everyone with problems has a dealer ordered retail truck, or the dealer ordered as a stock unit, but assigned a higher priority number. This would allow the dealer to have on the lot trucks first, before your truck was delivered.

I went through Prestige Ford in Garland. I initially thought the same - Texas sells most trucks and DFW being a big metro area, if I order early then allocation would be a sure thing.
Like I said earlier ordered 4/18 - F450 Platinum. No VIN. Who knows how this thing works?

Having grown up in Texas there are definitely more F-Series on the road there, especially the Super Duty. Unfortunately living in California know we have more Model-S or 5-Series ;-( Which means I'm likely to be one of the last on the list. I even debated ordering from a dealer in Houston to get the truck earlier and then driving it back to California.
Hollapm: My dealer has a 176" 6.7 4x4 lariat in platinum white coming in with mine. It will be the first 2 trucks to my dealer. I'm in Corvallis Oregon. No sales tax here. Last 5- 13991. My last 5 of Vin are 13990.
