I have the dizzy hooked up to timed vacuum, not full vacuum. I will look at the PDF later when I get home.
Is the edelbrock ever going to have the same low end power and start as easily a the old autolite did? If not I might take it back off.
The Eddy on my 85 351W HO with a manual choke starts instantly. Than push in the choke just a hair, drop her in gear and head for town. A mile or so down the road at the top of the hill I push the choke all the way in.
Never touch it the rest of the day no matter how many times I shut it off or restart it. Or how cold it is. And I have yet to get the proper jets and metering rods in it. Just set it by ear when it was put on new and never looked back.
It's a very simple self healing carb. It is for me anyway. I like a holly
but It seems I am always tuning them. The Eddys I have had. Prolly 8
are pretty much bolt on and go and never look back.
Im just the opposite, I had a eddy and went to a quick fuel technology carburetor. With the eddy I had to pump the pedal a couple times to get it to start and use the choke to keep it running. With the quick fuel I don't have a choke and I go out and turn the key to start it. It also seems to have better throttle response and top end.
ya I pump the gas a couple of times with the manual choke to start her cold like overnight or a few days. But from then on the rest of the day I can just reach in and bump the starter, Never even sit in the seat, and she starts every time. And Like I say this is an out of the box Eddy at sea level.

I swapped the jets around. Big ones in the primary's and small ones in the secondary's.
Now I can't even get it started it's flooding So bad.
Just at starter RPM!??? PO must have done something wrong or wierd. A holley with a blown out power valve will still let the engine start. Well, it was worth experimenting. It didn't cost you a dime.
It had gas bubbleing out of places I didn't know gas could come out of.
I switched them back and it ran like it did before.
I don't know the history of this carb for sure, but I think it was on a hot rodded 390. I'm gonna read the manual and see what stock is supposed to be.
This carb/ intake should run like a raped ape, and I can't even do a burnout.
Tonight I took the truck out and set my timing and idle mixture together, finding the combo that worked best in terms of vacuum and idle speed. Now I'm at about 14-15* initial timing, and two turns on the mixture screws. My idle is set to about 700rpm and my vac gauge is reading 12-15 bouncing.
I took it out for a run down the freeway for about 4 miles to get everything going and blowing. The engine runs as smooth as it ever has for me. almost like it's running properly. But I can tell something is still a bit off.
Exhaust leak, I've had it for a while, but it's a small one so I didn't really pay much attention to it. Now that the engine is running better, I'm going to go after the leak. My question is, would a small exhaust leak cause a misfire and the vacuum gauge to bounce? It is an audible leak, I suspect from cylinder 4, or the flange on the passenger side. I'll look at it harder in the morning.

Now if I can just get my carb jetted right...
Exhaust leak will not affect cylinder performance. Bouncing vac gauge is indicative of a dead/under-performing cylinder.
In an attempt to regain my lost low end power, I got out my 2-4 adapter and stuck my old 2barrel on. It ran horrible. Worse than bad. Back to missing hard, no power at all, wouldn't shift.
So I stuck the 4 back on and it runs the same again. Maybe even a bit better. This time I out a phenolic spacer plate under the carb, maybe that's helping with air velocity.
