the last picture was with a customers kw. i tried to find a better frame ,but didn,t find anything. my cousin got a machine shop he going to order some let say frame iron. i not knowledgeable in tinsil strength so i ask for his advice. the plan is to bend the iron on his big hydrolique bending bench,to the same dimension as the old piece,s. now its a double frame so i,m not really sure how i will join it. i,m planning a 45 degre cut were crossmember are . but i,m not sure about the inner piece. even though of removing the inner frame. anybody got ideals !!! the frame seems larger in some places forgot to take a picture ,kind of strange. if somebody could take a picture of a nice frame it could maybe help me.

We shortened a frame on a 55 C900 that had frame with a liner. We staggered the cut locations and sectioned the liner and frame in different locations.
Here's a link to the thread for an idea of what we did
nice job and thanks for posting. i thought of removing inner frame, but it goes almost to the engine if i remember right. how did you cut the inner frame i,m kind of scared of touching the outter frame,or did you removed all!

We drilled out all of the factory spotwelds with a annular cutter in the mag drill then burned off the rivet heads and popped them out. Once they were cut free they pull right out with some persuasion
We had to shorten them as well. we cut them on a bandsaw but any applicable method will work
The liners in the 55 only go from the forward rear shackle bracket to under the cab
Not sure how far they go on earlier trucks
You could use fish plates on the sides if your not concerned with the way they look (or hide them). We did not deem them necessary for the 55 because of the liners (3/16" thk) and frame (5/16" thick) is so big ( almost 8" tall) and the staggered cuts
does anybody know if the spring pins ,shackel, and spring frame bracket are the same on all trucks. i check the joblot catalog ,they seem to have the same part number for. 1/2 ton 3/4 ton and big truck. not quit sure what they mean by big truck. every thing is wore out on my truck.
i,ve got a decision to take on my wheel base. the truck is currently 180 inch wheel base. now that all the crossmembers and plating are gone, i,m 99% sure the rear frame and 6 bolt wheel pattern with vaccuum operated 2 speed come from another truck. probably why the owner called it a 3 ton special.these trucks should be 134 or 159 wheel base. i got 2 hanger bearings a 3 driveshaft. easyest plan would be to remove the shortest drive shaft, about 35 inches and 1 hanger bearing. the problem this makes is ,i end up with 2 crossmembers about 2 inch apart. i find it looks kind of strange .(now i have to go throught an inspection,to register my truck once completed) and i would end up with 144 inch wheel base. is it worth the problem(and money) of having my driveshaft retube to get a 159 inch wheel base! truck would look alot better and crossmembers would be spreaded more evenly. but the cost of drive shaft were not really planed.
i going to say 159 inches! so that way i won,t change my mind,10 times a day. 1 driveshaft will be lenghten ,to relocate hanger bearing. hopefully over the weekend i will be ajusted!
I'm glad you are sticking with factory dimensions. As for me I like the shorter wheel base models. Maybe I just like things to be short and stubby, like me. Nice to see you making good progress. My shop is unheated and the older I get the less inviting it looks out there in the winter. Keep it up you are inspiring me!
ready for some welding, line up and level. a friend whose a boiler maker will weld it next week. then i got to get my inner frame liner made, fitted and welded. order all 4 rear spring hangers, pins and bushings. everything was wore out. hopefully in 2 weeks my next saturday to work on it parts are in,so i can assemble the rear end.
Dang those are some nice cuts. What did you cut it with, hand held angle grinder with a cutoff wheel? Sawzall? We all wish we had a friend that's a boilermaker when welding on a frame is necessary.
i used a cut off wheel. i,ve been putting a few hours here and there this week.wife made me realize ,that its going to be st valentine day . so my next big day is lost. frame is welded good job! i,m fitting the inner liners left one is ready ,working on right side. them inner frame liner were welded almost every 5 inches to the top and bottem of exterior frame. had a few guys looking at my truck yesterday.one was saying, that those weld were added later . he said your not suppose to weld a frame! i told him this is 1942 maybe they did weld it. he said its the owners who done that thinking it would reinforce the frame! you guys with bigger trucks, is your frame welded, like mine. if it is a picture would be cool to show my friend.
removing rivets cleaning and washing parts is time consuming. this week my welder friend is going to finish welding my inner frame liner. next will be painting frame from transmission support back. i ended ordering rear spring hangers, bushing and pins. they were all wore out,had to use a rimmer for the bushings. i hope i have time left for doors, march is knocking at the door!!!
