Hi Anthony,

How has the paint on the engine parts held up?

Was there a strong smell in the cab the first time they came up to operating temp?

I can't remember if you painted the exhaust manifolds. If so how are they holding up?

Thanks.

I'm n a mad dash to get all my runnin, n Xmas done. I will b updating over the holiday. I could smell paint for a bit,,, gone now,,, ex manifolds are holding up good,,, no peeling. I painted them with BBQ grill silver. I will do pics soon. I'm almost to south bend now,,, Mansel is gonna cut me loose with a whole new clutch setup so I can swap it out. I think I messed up my trans by forcing it n2 gear. I've got lots of slop in the shifting pattern. I'm hoping one or both of the bushings fell out. We will c. 598240 odo now. 16k on her so far

Couple more pointless pics

This is what happens when a dealer can't get the lock to work.

Mansel at South Bend hooked it up. I've actually got, what I think is, a prototype clutch. They resurfaced a new flywheel or something, to work with the different style clutch plate he gave me. The one I have is a full face plate with brass in it. I have a complete new setup. Can't wait to get it in.

Just another day at the office,,, lol

I guess I'm getting traction bars also. Wonder if my rear diff bearings would've lasted longer with bars??? Anyone have traction bars installed? Or got links to different brands??

If you get over into Winston-Salem, NC I can probably get you hooked up with someone for a LOT less (typically).

Anthony,
If you want I can make you a PDF of the service data
from my workshop DVD.

In this photo do I see a red light at the bottom mirror post or is that
from something else? If it is not an artifact what is it for ?

Must b a sniper!!! Lol. Nah, just. Reflection from the switches. Thx Sean,, I'm gonna get out my DVD when I get home. Not sure I wanna go at it tho. Might just outsource that job. The clutch n tranny shifter slop are the first issues I'm fixing.

Btw, hey Benny, did u get one of those tranny jacks? Just wondering if so, have you lifted a trans n trans case together with it yet? Wondering if I put the plate just in front of the tranny mount, how is it for balance? Anyone know??

I did find some threads on building traction bars,,, it's doable for sure. But that's for another day.

Anthony,
I know to do the a differential you need some special tools
to set the pre-load and the clearances for the ring gear.
You got me thinking and I will look it up some time tonight
if I am not too tired. Cats have been having too much fun.

I postponed the back surgery do to a family emergency.

Hey Anthony. I had my axle rebuilt up at Midwest wheel in NKC earlier this year. I had the same problem. I re tightened my Pinion yoke a few times until I ran out of room. I took the truck up to Midwest wheel with just the idea of replacing the pinon and carrier bearings. They quickly educated me that it's a bad idea to replace those without doing the ring/pinion as well. I guess the ring/pinion wear with the bearings as they age and when you replace just the bearings your rearend will growl like crazy if you don't replace. I kinda went crazy when I did mine and put in a detroit tru trac lsd while he was in there and that was a $600 part by itself. I think I spent like $2450 out the door but a lot of that was overnighting 80 pounds worth of stuff. I was in a fiery hurry to get out of town to work. I imagine you could prob go back with a stock set up for much less. I just thought I'd share that.

And as far as traction bars go I had a set of OUO "one up offroad" traction bars on my 6.0 and they were sweet. They looked awesome and they used poly bushings instead of those annoying hind joints. I ordered them from Clay at riffraff I believe they were $500 or so. I pulled them off when I traded my truck so if you ever want to look at em give me a shout while your in town. Good luck in your travels I hope your ZF can hang in there with all the clutchless gear jammin it's going through lol.
