I can't help you much other than to tell you that with a "N70..." VIN, you do not have an F700. It's an N or LN series truck.

Damn, I'd forgotten how addictive this site is. I'll decode some of these backlogged VIN's.

Chris (aka Aunt Blabby) has it too...so this means everyone else probably has it.

I got a call several days ago from a guy I hadn't spoken to in years (Edit: see post #292...this is him)...guess who gave him my number? It's different after April 2017.

I'm thru decoding today, will be back and decode some more tomorrow.

As humans, we never truly appreciate the good we take for granted... until it's gone.

740 characters. 120 spaces. 17 carriage returns.

That's 877 keystrokes.

Now multiply that times 87,228 posts.

That's the good we have been taking for granted.

"THANK YOU" only takes 8 characters.

Oh, and 1 space. Still, not even enough to make a minimum post.

Saying thank you amounts to typing 0.0001% of what Bill has typed in answer to FTE member requests for VIN decoding of vintage Ford trucks, for well over a decade here on FTE.

Selflessly. And often, thanklessly.

If you have ever been helped by @NumberDummy over the years, please give him 8 characters back, in exchange for the nearly 80 million characters he has given us.

Just take a moment, here and now, to say

THANK YOU BILL!

THANK YOU BILL!

Wow, that's a lot of posts! Lots of great info from sources most of us don't have access to...even if you are not the one who asked for help, the reply usually has some tidbit worth noting for future reference: phone numbers, dealers, sources, interchanges, supersedes, etc.
I've often wondered how many different sections of FTE, and other forums, Ford or not, that you contribute/share info with?
Thanks again,

Cheers

Too many (5 different Ford forums, 1 each Studebaker and Packard forums), causing me to have terminal burn out...almost.

I've never seen those decoded here. Even Canadian decodes are tough. You need the Master parts catalog for Mexico.

I don't know where to steer you other than searching for "Ford Mexico" and spanish terms for catalog, parts, repair etc. Since I don't speak Spanish, I can't help you there.

This came up with another truck and a Mexican 289. Lots of discussion, but no one came up with the catalog for a decode and other checking.

Seems funny, but that's what we find so far.

For just the VIN, Vinwiz works "ok":

vinwiz.com VIN Decoder

For the full warranty plate, you can download incomplete "Demo" Master Parts Catalogs for '64-'72 and '73-'79 trucks. Just search "Ford Master Parts Catalog" and add the date range, or the word "demo" and you should find them.

C70 = 1973-on C700 gas

E = 361 2V or 4V FT XD V8 gas engine. (XD same as HD, eXtra Duty or Heavy Duty, sometimes "eXclusive", but this engine was not exclusive to any one truck)

V = Kentucky Truck Plant

A60673 = 1976 series number

206 = 206" wheelbase

MT = Paint code. M = white, T = red. I did not find a stand-alone "MT" color. Is your truck a red and white two tone? That doesn't sound right.

C702 = C700 gas, 25,500lbs GVWR

118 = Body type. Standard cab without sleeper. Upholstry can be figured from this also but the "demo" I have is incomplete.

M = Clark 285V 5 speed direct transmission

GQ = Eaton model 17121 18,500lb capacity 2 speed rear axle, ratio 6.50/8.86. The catalog only shows the 6.5 ratio, but says it's a 2 speed. The other axles listed with a 6.50 ratio are two speeds with 8.86 as the other ratio. Do you have a two speed?

25500 = 25,500lbs GVWR (no digit for the front axle, probably a Ford 7000 or 8000lb axle, no power steering, whatever the standard axle was)

520429 = Dallas district code (52) with the special order number.

Let me know if anything is out of whack here.

it is in fact red and white. It is an older coors truck. I’m not sure on the rear end being two speed. I’ll have to do some more looking at it.

My 12k lb winch had its work cut out for it. Good snatchblock helped get it pulled up.

30’ trailer and it took almost every inch!

The two speed will have a switch on the shifter, usually with a red button. Up/down, clicks into place. The rear axle will have a motor and electrical connections on the driver side of the pumpkin, about 2 o'clock if you are looking straight at it from the driveshaft point of view.

The box, or any "back of cab" equipment would be installed after the vehicle left Ford. (Other than some flatbeds and stake sides) So the "two tone", to be noted as it is, should have been the cab.
