No Bill, I didn't fool with it at all. I had to run down to Belmont Shore to look at a job (of course, now that I'm going out of town I get a call for local work) and give an estimate and I just got home. I think it's got two solenoids; one on the inner fender and one built into the starter. It's not that old type of solenoid that Ford used for years.
every time i ever tried that solenoid trick all i ever got was sparks or smoke. i use a DMM now...
truck still starts first turn of the key, the van doing great too though i have not been driving it. maybe i should put the XM+NavTraffic subscription on hold so it'll still be around when i finally get to drive it some more.
i have a feeling my next contract with them will be a lot less expensive with the recent availability of free traffic data for the newer style nav setups.
I think solenoids fail more than starters. If the starter spins but doesn't engage, that will be the bendix in the starter. But if it clicks and doesn't spin, assuming voltage and cables are good, that solenoid may be bad.
I've started a few of them that way. Most recently a coworkers after work. It was about an '00 F150 and I was surprised that it still had the old firewall mounted solenoid, although it took a while to find it under a plastic shroud above the motor on the firewall. Had him turn the key while I used his tire iron to short the solenoid. Fired right up.
I can't say for sure on a '94 460. But my guess is it has the same solenoid.
Wow, sounds like a rough day for you Steve. That is strange that your storage unit would have a different lock on it. Especially considering nothing was taken. (maybe they added some illegal contraband?)

I was turning the key while the tow guy pounded on the starter and it would turn sporadically, but far too slow to start the motor . Anyways, I changed the starter out this morning and it fired right up. Now, on to the compactor that won't start.
This is probably a bad fuel thing. Even though I put Sta-Bil in it after I used it last, it's been sitting for quite a while. Gonna start by draining the old crap out and putting in some fresh.
