The first step in the B code mod is to remove to top spring and the block from the new B code spring (those two parts the red arrows are pointing at). Cary sent me some detailed instructions with pics when I ordered the kit from him.
Second, Remove the sheet metal spacers of the B codes and replace them with the 1/8" spacers from the stock Excursion springs.
Take the two shortest leaves from the stock Excursion spring packs and add them to the B code spring packs between the shortest leaf and the bottom overload leaf..
In the second or third page of this thread is this post: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post11401613 It gives you a quite detailed picture much like what Rich just posted. The reason that you were not "given" the answer earlier is that people don't "learn" when they are hand fed information. The only way that you will learn ALL that you need to do is by actually reading, taking notes and then figuring out what is best for you. If you do NOT take the time to research this project well in advance then you will either end up getting seriously hurt or end up killing someone when your axles separate from your Excursion because you didn't follow all of the instructions that were given. Please do not attempt to swap out your springs without completely understanding what you are getting in to. You should be able to read each post in this thread and gain some knowledge of what has to happen. Good luck!
I'm trying to talk the wife into letting me do this upgrade but before I tell her the price, is the price for a pair of springs or just one spring when ordering? I dont want her flipping out on me.
Yes, you still need to modify the B code springs no matter what size blocks you use.
Don't feel bad - I was just as confused when I was researching it as were many others.
Not to step on anyone's toes here, but I think this is wrong. I always believed it was either the "b" spring and 3.5" block or "mod" "b" spring and oem 2" block. Either will give u the same height. The way with the 3.5" block just cost more bc u have to buy the extra block. The mod b spring is cheaper bc u have the parts to add to it from the oem spring it taking off and the oem block.

Price is for one spring, not a pair.

This is correct.
It all depends on what you want your end result to be, but what you've typed is correct.
I work at a dealership and I ordered new B Spring with the 3.5 Block and the V Springs for the front I have the V-10.. What do you think? I have mechanics to put it together for me..
but they never read direcetions lol so I have to lay out what I want done

True, I guess I could have worded my post better, you don't need to modify the B codes. But, I don't know of that many that have installed B codes without modding them. CT Performance has tried many, many different variations of springs & shocks on Excursions and modded B codes is what they and others recommend. So, for what it is worth IMO - I would mod the B-Codes. In Addition, as Stewart posted, you need to have a final vision of what you are after for the driving conditions you use it for - which includes tire size, overall ride height and suspension characteristics.
For my application the answer was - 2" hanger kit, V codes up front, Modded B codes in the rear with F-350 stock blocks. A lifted Excursion I can run 50 mph across the field and still fit in the garage.
For those that like a stiffer ride or have a custom front bumper, or a winch the X-codes up front are the way to go.
Bottom line : do your homework and decide what is best for you application
I just got the springs this morning here at the dealership.. They look good.
Now I can see what I am working with more of a hands on type of guy.. lol
I wonder how much height it will increase?
Any idea?
Height will depend on how bad your current springs are sagging. Before you start tearing into things measure from the ground to the bottom of the outside wheel well directly in the center on each wheel. From a guess you would gain anywhere from 1 to 3 inches but that is just a guess.

In my opinion:
I would do the V codes springs up front first.
modded B codes (without the 3.5" blocks) second
Check the height to see if it is what you are after
swap out the stock blocks if necessary, but if your not adding a hanger kit/lift then you probably won't need them.
Keep in mind (if it's a diesel) that the front end will settle slightly over the next few months/1,000 miles.
Rich....I have to say your X's stance is excellent!
To those that are on the fence of purchasing used V's verses new, take if from me and just get the new unless you like doing the job twice. I got a set of used V's from a buddy w/ an '05 f350, and my X is still sagging. My 285/75 r16 Michelin AT's are still rubbing the inner wheel well. Measurement is 39" concrete to wheel well centered on wheel......so at some point I will be ordering new springs when I can afford it.
