Keith,
When I was first a firemen, Our dept had one company called the Fire Patrol. It was a actual fire company in our town who's primary job was salvege, just like your Grandad's. I remember the covers, because we would all lend a hand from the other companies to help retrieve and fold them. There secondary job was lights. They had ginormous lights for night time fires. There third function was first aid if one of our guys got hurt or cut.
Later on, they drifted from salvage and became a Rescue outfit. Car crashes and the stuff. But I remember going to drills with them. Our company would supply the ladders they required to make shutes for the water to exit the building.
Hope you don'tind me cutting into your thread, but like I've said before, I've been following your build and thoroughly enjoying it. One of my kids who hasn't been a kid for several years, works as a mechanic at a Ford dealership and I've been telling him about your build. He has been a very active member of a small town (750) volunteer fire dept. He is a first responder for their rescue team and the owners of the Ford dealership are 100% on-board with him leaving work when a call comes in. Last week he was elected Fire Chief. I am not only very proud of him, but I have a great amount of respect and appreciation for those who serve in such a needed position, paid and volunteer.
AXracer – New York City was the very first Fire Patrol starting in 1839. There were some smaller, volunteer Fire Patrol’s and I’m not sure if Buffalo had one.
Jim – There were 23 Patrols in the major cities and a number of smaller ones operating as your department did.
Grant- Congrats on your son’s appointment to Fire Chief. I’m sure he will do a fine job!!
We got all the bins painted and clear coated today. The Chicago extinguisher holder was also painted. Going to get to the wet sanding and buffing soon.
If you could put all of your sanding strokes end to end I'll bet you would have sanded yourself to the moon and back by now. That truck has a lot of surface area, especially when you start looking at all the bins, etc.
I see some greenbacks laying there on the table in the first pic, what were you trying to bribe someone to sand for you? LOL
Thanks Guys. I really thought I was done with sanding. I let Gerald do most of it today. I did some small projects like putting the glove box liner and door on and a couple of other minor little jobs. Man, you guys have some eagle eyes That was Gerald's money ... he is helping me out big time but he doesn't work for free
Thanks Joe!! I was wondering when someone was going to notice the GMC. Yes, I'm one of those darksider types although I have owned my first Ford for nearly 6 years now. My Dad has always owned Fords. He still has his 86 F100 that he bought new. Merry Christmas!!
