Wow, that's frustrating news about the wheel cylinders (again). I know how much of a hassle they have been to you. On the bright side, I'm glad you caught it now instead of realizing you are losing brakes in the middle of a parade or event.
I wish I knew what the answer was. It not like I haven't been driving the truck. I flushed the system around 2 years ago which was recommended by Chuck of Chucks Trucks. He said to do this every 2 years because it is an open system and moisture can get into it. My front cylinders that I replaced from NAPA are still going strong (8 years) with no issues. I so wish I could buy some new ones!! I'm going to have to talk to the owner of the warehouse to see if its Ok to do the repair there. If not I'm really screwed! If he agrees I may have to move the truck to the back of the warehouse so I don't block his vehicles in. The truck will be down for at least 10 days hopefully sooner.
Man I really hate FORD brakes!! Sorry guys but after all the issues which include 3 booster rebuilds, 3 master cylinders, 3 rebuilds of brake cylinders, I have a right to state that !!
I wonder if your cylinders could be sleeved. I have seen this done
and it worked out well. If it was me I would take a quart of brake
fluid with me and do the parade. I doubt you would loose the brakes.
and if ya did ya have the park brake. Right? Yes I do crazy stuff
like this all the time. Ya know what they say Keith. "Ya don't need brakes,
they just slow ya down". That' what my boss told me when I complained
of not having any wheel brakes and a weak retarder on a Terex.
That's a giant truck like an earth mover kinda. It was off road so all
we could hit was each other. And we did on occasion. Or miss a turn
at the bottom of the grade and end up buried to the frame in a swamp.
Than shut down the job to use all the equipment to get her back up
on the rock. Not very cost effective.
On Edit: Just wondering if that brake is backing off and pushing
the cup out of the cylinder from having to travel to far. Have you tried to
adjust it up to see?

Rich, the cylinders were sleeved already with a lifetime warranty. After the first breakdown the company stated that this almost never happens. Well,
its happened twice since they first rebuilt them! And it wasn't cheap to re-sleeve them! If my memory is correct, I believe it was $500 for the 4 of them. We adjusted everything the last time we had them apart.
Jim, I totally agree with your statement! It just that the truck runs so good. That Lincoln Motor starts right up every time!
A stainless steel sleeve in a brake caliper works great. I had Corvette calipers sleeved many years ago and they held well. If done right, a wheel cylinder should work as well, IMO.
Edit: I would pressure the rebuilder as where they are leaking and why they are leaking.
Chuck hooked me up! I'm going to replace all the cylinders with new ones! Chuck found a supplier that stocks them and they have a slightly larger bore so I am done with the resleeved one's that have been done many times now.

Jim, doing the brakes are kinda of a pain. I was considering paying someone to do the job but I am afraid of them damaging the shoe springs and these would be hard to replace. Gerald & I have done it a few times before and are getting to be experts LOL!!
I would think that there will be a great need for the new cylinders. Will they be for all our larger trucks or is this a one time shot for your specific vehicle. Mine were pitted to a degree, but I was able to emery cloth them out . If they do leak, It would be nice to know I could get new ones.
Jim, I know they will work on F7's & 8's. I not sure about the other applications. Chuck will know. I would think they would work on your truck or other big trucks from the 50's.
I still can't see how the cyl didn't hold. Seems to me the cups are now to small
or the brakes backed off. It's about all I can think could go wrong.
So glad you found what ya need Keith. Just remember these trucks
are a hobby and never really done. There is always something needing
your attention. Like the brg in the siren for another. How boring it would
be to just ever have to wash and polish her. And that could be the case
if ya never used it but for show. It's great that you take her out so
often.

I got the carb back for the Buick. I'm having a difficult time adjusting theidle speed. It is recommended to use a vacuum gauge (which I don't have). Man,that car can move now! It really throws you back in the seat when you punch it.I was churping 2nd gear! I'm going to ask a friend to help adjust the carb.<o></o>
I was in New Orleans this weekend and had a great time. It was my first timethere. My wife and I met my sister and her boyfriend there. It was nice to getaway from the kids for a few days. we don't get to do that too often. The WW2museum there is fantastic! Here are a couple of pics. They had some vets forthe visitors to talk to. I met a 82nd Airborne vet who jumped on D-Day. What anhonor. I asked him if he had seen "Band of Brothers" and he said"NO", that’s Hollywood!<o></o>
