Don't get upset with him - You guys are making great progress!
Been quietly following your updates - Look forward to seeing that engine
after you rebuild it. What headers are you going to run?
My engine is out a 1973 Mercury Marquis with 55k miles. I'm loving your engine. My goal is 500 HP 600 TQ with the Edlebrock setup. I'm going to be supplying the entire top end so it keeps the cost down. Prob paint my block ford blue or gloss black to make the shiny stuff pop.
see here for guidelines on how to get to 500+ hp with a 460 based engine.
Thank you for the post and info. I'm still learning how cams, heads, carbs, cranks and the rest of these engine mods work. I took forever learning suspensions and now that that's finished I have to refocus my attention elsewhere.
Now I have a major decision. Do I slow down and drive the truck for the summer with the low compression motor as is or leave the motor out and rebuild it while i do the firewall and repair the few very very small cancer spots along with patch the fuel filler hole. Option 2 puts me easily 9 months away from driving the truck. Keep in mind it will be drivable once the engine is installed.
Ive looked into the 460 for my project, but I decided to go with a built up Flatty, But when I did look into the 460's it was always an extra bonus if you have D0VE Heads. If I remember correctly the D3VE Heads are the worst of the bunch and you wanna stay away from them; also there was something with newer 460s that made them a "Greener" Lower powered model, You probably dont have that one but its something to read up on. Theres a few forums out there that actually deal directly with the 429 & 460. I'd check them out for some tips and tricks.
All in all the truck is looking amazing, Cant wait to see her going!!!
actually the 72 heads are the worst.. first year with the poor quench and detonation. 73's are better, and with work, can be made to produce power.. but the high compression C8/C9/D0 heads are the best way there quickly, and lower cost.. altho they force high octane fuel. its hard to run at 10.5:1 compression. (the KB pistons I chose dropped my compression to 9.6:1)

Sam it sounds like you're the man I need to talk to about buidling my motor! LOL.
Good News: My truck will be back home in my garage Tuesday.
Bad / Good News: I bought another 1955 f100 yesterday (Girlfriend is going to kill me that was our hawaii money and we leave in 2 weeks)
Now to figure out if i wire it myself now or put basic wiring in for the summer and upgrade after the firewall is done and cab is finished. I dont want to do it twice.
Surprise! My guy comes through. I should be able to pick it up for sure on Tuesday along with the other 55 I bought this weekend. Now all i need to do is sell that other 55 so I can finish the firewall that needs to be cut.
I"m sure I will find out when we finish installing the motor. I asked multiple times that No Limit send the big block springs. They got the motor mounts correct so I assume they are the big block springs. Note: "Assume" we had some issues with shipping all the parts and some delays. Hopefully its right because I'm at wits end with them.
