The Heart and Soul

Tackle this dirty beast! Now what color should I paint it? My local engine shop is cutting me a killer deal on full rebuild on the engine and throwing in a rebuild on the C6 too.

1. Aluminum Heads
2. Dual Plane Intake
3. New Headers
4. Edlebrock 750 CFM Carb
5. 460 Crank to replace the stock 429 and bump up displacement slightly
6. Slight bore to accommodate new pistons
7. 500 HP goal 600 TQ
8. Double Roller Cam
9. 2000 Stall in trans

FYI, Putting a 460 crank in a 429 block will bump up the displacement all the way to 460. Both engines have the same 4.36" bore.

I would really like to go 502 or a lil bigger stroker but I'm trying to stay within a certain budget for the entire build so the 460+ will have to do. Although we are thinking about doing the complete BBF Edlebrock Performer RPM package to get my baby movin.

where did u get the engine from? year mostly.

to get the kind of HP you want, you will need the high compression heads, c8/c9/d0ve

I have the C9s in mine, and put the largest valves in I can get. 2.25/1.72.
I did NOT do any head porting, and should have picked a cam with more exhaust duration, as Fords seem to have poorer stock exhaust flows.
Dual Plane intake, roller rockers, new timing chain. bored .30 over (466ci).
I get 436 HP and 489ft torque on the dyno.

the dyno shop told me that he believed I could have had maybe another 50hp, if I had picked a different cam.

my engine build was $1400. I supplied the new timing chain and the roller rockers. (which turned out to be chevy's we think) the builder didn't clearance check the new valves with the new pistons, and so we broke a valve during the initial break in run and had to rebuild again. I bought another set of rockers, but they need different springs and the spring pockets cut, which we didn't discover until AFTER the dyno run as we had some valve float at 4500rpm and above. (I didn't want to try to cut the spring pockets with the heads on)
We replaced the pistons with pre-cut keith black pistons.
I wish I had known on the cam right then as we replaced it as part of the rebuild.

pic on the dyno

My engine is out a 1973 Mercury Marquis with 55k miles. I'm loving your engine. My goal is 500 HP 600 TQ with the Edlebrock setup. I'm going to be supplying the entire top end so it keeps the cost down. Prob paint my block ford blue or gloss black to make the shiny stuff pop.

Damn snook looking really good man. It don't matter how it's getting done, you are rocking it. I barely was able to finish the final welding on my front for the brackets last night. I had to ean some more truk time so I had to replace all interior doors in the house to new 2 panel doors. But I'm actually glad to see u this far as I am doing the build solo I have u to go to. ;-). Congrats again looking really sweet. I will post pictures of my build when I get to a good cOmpletion spot.

Thanks SVT-100. Most of the work done is a 1 man job on the truck. Too bad that man is my builder instead of me but I'm getting it back monday to start building the engine. I'm going to disassemble it and do the clean work. I'm also going to do the fisnish sanding the frame and even practice some welding if i can get my hands on a welder to box my frame. If i get a drive shaft cut i shoulid be able to drive the truck in the next month. I have a lot of pics if you need anything please dont hesitate to let me know. Good luck again. looking forward to seeing your progress soon.

T-Minus 5 minutes until i get off work and can go check out the progress. Really praying the motor is in and the truck is on the ground. Have not seen the stance yet but my builder tells me its going to be pretty low.

Now I need to pick up the rest of the pullies and ish to get the motor running and try and fire it up.
