Here's my new dilema...
I can spend over $4000 fixing my truck... or I can buy a '95 F350 CC 5sp with 174k on the truck but only 50k on a new engine for $5000 and sell mine for parts...
Trying to convince my wife that buying the 5spd truck and selling mine for parts would end up costing the same and I would have a better truck, but she isn't going for it.
So $3,500 in repairs vs. $5,000 for another truck that might have different stuff break on it soon. Is there any other reason to favor the 5k truck other than it's running and yours is not? You could probably sell your truck as is for 1500 and walk away even until something breaks on it and the wife says I told you so. If you want the other truck, convince her it's better for some other reason that it runs and mine doesn't.
Like Rick said, damage to the front cover can be verified visually. I'd be willing to pay a little labor to have them tear it down far enough to take a peek before pulling the motor.
Besides, a front cover issue that was bad enough to lose all low pressure oil is something I would like to think even the idtiots you had do the LPOP could recognize. The de-aeration valve remains a possibility that could be overlooked though.
X3 on the de airation valve onling thing I have found on 3 T$$$Es I've had to work on with no oil presure I would definatly have them tear it down and look.
As for the other truck yes you could buy it and have something break on it but you could also fix yours and have something break in it.
THey said that my valve was missing when they pulled the oil filter... I remember putting it back in there when I did the oil cooler o-rings though, and it was running until a month ago.
Anyone have a good picture of how the whole oil cooler breaks down with the valve in there? With parts labeled? One for my year truck would be great, without the c-clip.
This new shop said that the valve there would just bypass the filter, but said that there is another oil pressure relief valve that could cause the problem but don't know where it is located??? Are they the same valve? ANy ideas?
Ok. They did more testing and they can get oil pressure when they rev the engine up, but none at idle, so the front cover and oil pump are fine.
Ordering a new updated oil cooler head now. Should solve my problem.
I'm having the shop document that the valve was missing when they removed the oil filter, and because I told the dealership to check that valve and they did not and may have lost that valve during their testing I am hoping to get at least some of my money back from them. I don't mind paying for the new parts they put it, but not all of the labor.
Truck is fixed! Picking it up tomorrow from the shop. Replaced the rear oil cooler cap and it's all better!
Getting the new shop to write up some stuff for me to take to the dealership and try to get my money back (at least labor). I'll pay for the parts that were installed but not all of the labor and faulty diagnoses, and probably being the ones who lost the bypass in the first place...

Ya Falcon, glad to hear a little luck is falling on you. Like said above, good luck with the dealer. I'm sure their policy is to stall you until you actually confront them with a possible lawsuit. Sounds like you are getting all your ducks in a roll, that's good!
