Still trying to figure out my no-start and no-oil getting to HPOP issue.
Pretty sure my LPOP is shot, but not sure how to change it.
Anyone have a list of tools needed to change it, how long it should take to change, and a write-up or instructions on how to change it out? Pictures would be great...
Ford Dealer quoted me $90 for the LPOP gears and O-ring. They also mentioned something about a cover (front cover maybe?) but said I might not need that.
Have you considered a cracked pickup tube? It's not common but it does happen.
Test:
]Over fill the crankcase by 2-3 quarts.
Lift the rear of the truck as high as you can get it.
Attempt to start the truck. If it starts the problem is the pickup tube.... not the LPOP.
I saw that you needed to be signed in to SDD in order to see this so i figured i'd grab it and post it here in case you weren't a member of SDD. I do agree with Jim. I'd check for the cracked pickup tube before messing with the LPOP. If it is the LPOP i think i would get the Melling oil pump from ITP Diesel(now Sinister Diesel...)
Hey guys, what it be worth his time to maybe change his oil to a straight 50 weight to see if the LPOP will pump it up. If not then it might be the pump. Jim's is a good test also.
I hate to say it but every time I saw a T444E with no oil presure it wasn't the pump or the pickup tube, there's a valve in the back of the inner front cover in the oil passage right off the pump that has a bad habbit of falling out. I would still check the pickup tube first then if its good pull the ouil pump and inspect it for knicks, pittting or gaulding. If its good then that fitting probly fell out.
Brownie, you indicated before this problem happened you worked on two injectors for a miss (original thread). Did you have those injectors out? Reason I'm asking is on other sites I've read if the top o-rings are damaged then the HPOP will pump oil out of the reservoir faster than the LPOP can supply it.
Hope the shop finds the problem and it is a simple fix .. $$$ ...

De aration valve falling out would certainly cause the sudden issue
