Glad to here your up and running.
I suggest trying to recover your old oil pump and have the other shop look it over. If the tolerances or slightly out chances are that the old oil pump was still pumping even with the back plate clearances open. Then you may have some more ammo for the $$$ recovery mission.
I'm going to get all the info that I can get my hands on.
Since it was a sudden problem I doubt the old LPOP was actually bad. Seems like they wear out over time, not all at once.
I'm guessing that the valve popped out of place when I floored it to pass that guy, lost oil pressure and killed the engine, and then when the dealer was doing the diagnostic they took the filter off and didn't notice the valve fall out of it.
They just assumed that because there was no oil pressure at idle that the pump was bad. I need to find out how the new shop kept the truck running long enough to test the oil pressure with the engine revved up.
Yeah you know that they had a grease monkey under there (at the other shop)over a drip pan he pulled it and flipped it. It may still be laying in the drip pan.
Wouldn't surprise me. The thing that really pissed me off is that I told the dealership about 4 times to check that bypass. Before they did the LPOP and after.
All they would tell me is, "We didn't have time to look at it today" or "The mechanic said that it probably isn't the problem" or "The mechanic isn't here right now but I'll tell him when he gets back".
You'd think they would actually be able to find the problem and fix it when they had teh truck for a whole month!
THe other shop had my truck for less than a week and it is FIXED!!!
GO get em and take someone with you and a camera. Get names of people write them on a pad. If you get free legal aid take one with you when you go to get the old pump and other info. Go dressed to the T and dont show emotions just be stern and forth coming. At first ask (in private) manager is there someway we can deal with this without going to court. You may get some more money back. But remember no emotions or out burst and no belittling conversation in front of a group. Manager coversations should be held in private. That way if he gives in then he still has face with the pukes that work for him. Try it. Keep the camera hid then if you dont get what you want from the manager take some pics and then get names. Let the legal aide speak for most part but coach them with this info.
One side of my rear bumper is bent up really bad and the trailer wiring plug is damaged, probably from the tow truck company. The second shop said it was bent when they got it. Still waiting to hear from the dealership.
And my HPX is missing. The dealer said they removed it to test oil pressure at the heads. Well, they didn't re-install it and it isn't inside my truck at all. So add one more thing to the list for them.
Good news... The tow truck company said that if I bring it to them on monday they will verify that they damaged it (I can get statements from both shops if needed) and that they will order me a new bumper and install it for me.
The mechanic at the dealership won't be back from vacation till monday, so I will be getting copies of all of their notes and then talking to a attorney and the better business bureau.
Brownie,
WOW I just read all the thread and is like a novel. Glad to hear your truck is running again after so much time.
I just have a question, what was the bypass valve missing, the vertical or the horizontal that Rick mentioned?
And, I wish you luck with the dealer thing! My Dad and I went through that 4 years ago...... That is why I learned the little I know about vehicles, I hope to never get "taken for a ride" again.
