96 F350 diesel with 5 speed. rear axle is 3.55 so original tire size were 215/70/16 so company got tired of replaced tons of tires on that dump truck so they use 235/85/16.

BIGGEST MISTAKE now it make harder to tow with wrong gear ratio with big tire.

This estimated about 10K or up pound because it get FOREVER from 0 to 40 mph it get 30 seconds to do.

It was pour black smoke when floor.

I think I did wrong but do you shift when it reach 2-2,500 rpm? I try 2,500-2,900 I didn't like sound of engine at high rpm. it sound like it gonna to explosive if I do that.

i wouldn't want the 235's with 3.55's either.
it's not enough multiplied torque.3.73-4.10 is where its at.
tell 'em to go back to the shorter tires, and buy some good ones, rather than cheap tires.
that or swap in a 4.10 gear set for heavy hauling like that.correct gearing does it all.
this is the IDI section, but searching a little bit,i think your peak hp is at 2800 rpm,and without having some lower gears, you'll want to make her talk before shifting.not much choice there.she wont explode.
black smoke = to much fuel for the amount of air,so it can't completely burn.what your seeing is unburnt fuel going out the pipe.she should be supplied with more air,or less fuel.

215/70 tires? huh never heard of those, especially not for an older body style F350.

I run 215/85R16 all around my motorhome for maximum fuel economy

I don't own either truck or the trailer anymore, an IDI towing another IDI. The trailer was heavy empty.

got my top off for winter.
hauling a little dirt this morning.
little apple firewood.normally i'll stack it,but that's all there was,so i just tossed it on since it fit easy enough.

she takes it pretty good with the custom leaf packs.

im gunna need some wheel spacers!!!! good thing it was cold out, plus i was only going a couple miles.but rubbing duals aint no good.i better hit up ebay before putting so much on again.
(only one load did this.he got it a little heavy on the one side.but still.it's to close for comfort.a blow out waiting to happen.)

anyway,i finally remembered to take my cam with me so i could get some more pics for this thread.

oh i forgot the little jag of wood.i'll attach it.

My motorhome has (now) Michelin LTX M/S LT215/85R16 and run 'em at 70psi outside dually, and 67psi inner dually.

These in the pics were the old Hercules Radial All Trac A/S LT215/85R16 with 65psi outside and 62psi inner and has great space between them selfs.

Didn't think it would make that much difference 215 - 235 for duallys spacing wise.

New Michelins look about the same with 70 psi in 'em.
