Ok. I just figured that i would offer it to him cuz it's just sitting up at my shop rusting away. I may also be able to find one down at my uncles house to but I'll start at the easiest place first.
You guys forget, I have 3 helpers the same age. While I agree it's important to teach them, it's an absolute cluster f*** with all three of them in the shop. All they want to do is play grab azz and blow the air hose. However, the one in the picture is Autistic. He stays focused a little longer than the other two. And I firmly believe he will be a genius. The other two will be like me, and that scares me. LOL
Fox, I believe William is right. The rear axle under an 88 should be a 10.50. But if you can identify it as a Dana 80, I'm all ears. But if the diff cover looks like your 96, it's a sterling and won't work. Either way, I really appreciate the offer man.
Started tear down of the Dana 80 axle tonight with the help of my good friend Carl. For those that don't know Carl, he is an indispensable part of Death Row Diesel. He provides more help than I could ever pay him for. He's always there for every project with a truck load of motivation and gusto. While he doesn't own a diesel, and is not "officially" an Inmate, he's a very important part of our family and we would be lost without him. Thank you Carl.
Now, here's a few pics. And I have one question.......Anybody ever see liquid chocolate come out of a differential? It looked just like hersheys chocolate syrup, and the same consistancy. And the smell......holy hell.
And as a side note, I came up with a way to remove axle nuts with no tools. And I believe it will work on the sterlings too. I will start another thread about that because I'm smitten with my idea. And I think it will help alot of guys.

.
Yes I have. In my line of work I see the chocolate in differentials all the time. As you've probably guessed, it comes from severe neglect in changing the fluid. The brown look is actually moisture (water) that has contaminated the gear oil. And yes, it has a "lovely" smell!
The last time I looked at Jim's site the hood wasn't on in the picture. Anyway I ask cause I plan on turning my truck into a puller once I get a different vehicle. However, I didn't plan on 8". That's big.
There is a world famous guy in town that is known for building trucks, well his specialty is hoods. If you want somewthing custom made up, he's your guy. If you want his name, pm me.
I would bet you'd be WAY over 500hp if it holds. Think about it: Hybrids, Dual HPOPs to make them work, the Sledgehammer, Tuning from Jody, a, uh, very nonrestrictive exhuast. If you can't make over 500hp with all that $$$, then I'm selling my truck. Or I'll buy the common rail fuel system if that ever happens and see what I can do with that. How much Boost are you thinking?
Travis, what's the advantage of the fast Injectors?
Faster fuel dump means quicker combustion.
So its burning all at once, instead of spraying fuel still during the combustion event.
If i have 4ms injectors.
That is a long time, if he's dumping in like 1.5 ms,
Then by the time the cylinder hits up there, the fuel is all in, while I might be dumping my last 2ms of fuel.
