That's been my thinking, too, and that's the kind of price I can seriously consider.
When you talk about "diagnostic software", Ray, what kind of diagnostics?
I've been thinking about using one of these mini's for the AE I have on the way from Clay (Riffraff Diesel)... would be much easier to work with in the truck and Excursion, and I could build my own adjustable platform for it, too.

Right now I'm using this software OBD-2 Vehicle Explorer Scan Tool Browser and outboard software and planning to get AE.Like you I want a smaller puter to use in vehicles. My laptop is just too bulky and with the Athalon processor the battery life is pretty short
To keep laptop battery life from being a problem, I plan in install an inverter and 120V electrical connection into my center console so it will be handy for laptop charging.
...I wonder though, how long one of those mini batteries would last?...
That's why I'm going to install an inverter with the 120V plug-in at teh console. That way, I can just plug in the laptop and not worry about battery life at all.

Ive had one of those in my glove box for the last 7 years. You dont know how much of a lifesaver that thing has been in the past!
I could do my research or whatever I needed to do in the truck before I get to class using the campus-wide WiFi. I loved it!
Mine was a Sima (I believe) that I got for free from one of my distributors back in the car stereo days! 300 watts maybe?!
I have an Acer Desktop from Wal Mart. I think it Cost Like $400. Works Great.
I have been playing around with the idea of installing an inverter in my truck for a while, but the guys over in the "electronics forum" weren't much help.
Wow, I have an extended life batt for my IBM T60 and get about 4hrs run time when fully charged.
On the inverters make sure that you get a clean inverter, the power supplies in these laptops do not like modified sine waves..... Luckily mine was still under the ESP and all I had to do was send the computer back to IBM and it was fixed in three days.
this little T60 has been the best computer I have ever had, it runs anything I throw at it, and with a 14" screen size it rides nicely on my arm rest console in the truck.
Pete, no hail here this morning, but am expecting it tomorrow.
Installing the right kinda inverter is easy Nolan. The large ones I have a red and a black **** for a hook up. All they need is a power wire of the right gauge with a fuse, and a ground, route the wires and there ya go.
