Brandon, do you have any idea if the warehouse is set up for SAP? I have no idea what that stands for,but it is basically a bar code scanning system that eliminates all paperwork and tracks each shipment. We are going through the training for 6 weeks is why I ask.
Yes Scott we also have a SAP system that is integrated into our RFID. the RFID tells our pickers where the product is located in the warehouse, and they have to scan the barcode on the pallet before they can pick the item.
Years ago when I was a picker, we had to do it the old fashioned way and actually look at the box and verify that it was the correct thing to load on the floats. Now that its the video game generation working in the warehouses we have to make it easy for them. Now granted, back when I was a picker we were only loading 6000-8000 cases per night and we were humping it to get it done before the trucks pulled out at 4am. Now they are loading and average of 20K cases per night in the slow season, and 30K per night in the summer with the same amount of crew we were running 15 years ago.
our warehouse is RFID, we have a little over 12,000 SKU's in the warehouse but we have them double slotted in the racks (two to four different pallets of items per slot) It is really cool at night to watch our crew running around on tow motors with their headsets on that tell them which box to pic out of the slot. The RFID system cut our mispicks exponetially. Our company is running at a 99.8% pick rate for 20,000+ cases per night.
12-15 hrs from now I will be getting that weather, thanks for the warning.
What we are hoping for is to end our losing of customer relines. Even though these units weigh in at anywhere from 3500 to 8000#s, and have to be moved by crane or a huge forklift, they get lost out in the RGA yard. I have two guys that spend most of their day out in the yard tagging parts that need to come in. Every day they have one or two that they cannot locate and we end up searching for them. We cannot afford to lose parts and search for them or lose parts and give the customer a free new one. That has happened. Free oilwell drilling motor because we lost theirs.....not profitable.
That weather was moving east. Have you gotten any of it yet?

Well it looks as though the rest of the country is battling severe weather. Its not bad here, just a little cold.
4th day at work today. I am learning more about the insurance industry than I ever thought I would. I think I won my battle on the new computer prospect - they brought the graphic designer up from the fraternal department downstairs, asked her if my computer would work for what I needed it for. She laughed for a solid minute and said "are you kidding me?" I think I am going to take it upon myself to bring this company into the technology age. Its not that they are against the idea of new equipment, they just don't really know the difference between what we have and what we need. An artist is only as good as his/her tools.
Morning folks, Severe weather has moved on past us now, and every things fine. Its actuall supposed to quit raining for a while this afternoon, but we are forcasted for 5-7 inches tomorrow through Sat, with the best chance for real severe weather in the wee hrs of Sat morning.
I know Im not Jim, but this morning Sheldon, we had fried bologna and egg sandwiches at my house. Yummy!
We are having apples and cinnamon oatmeal and a bannana this morning.
Lisa they will be happin in the long run when they realize that you are correct in needing new computers.
I'm glad that the storm passed by Brandon. When we get rain like their predicting for you we have a lot of streets that out due to the antiquated storm water system here.
Weatherman says we're supposed to get somewhere between 8" & 18" of snow today!! WOOHOO!!! Funny thing is (no offense Lisa) the people moaning the MOST about it were the natives, and the big nasty lady that lived in Alaska!! This just kills me! Seriously... you live in friggin' C O L O R A D O.... check the map. Them 14,000'+ hills are renowned for snow.... I just don't get it...
Anyway, I had a great run this morning with the pups! I got rid of a bunch of trash, and have a couple guys coming to buy some of my junk/parts over the next few days. Unless they puss out over the weather...
Lisa - I'm sure they might have someone local, but I've dealt alot with small companies and their networks. One of the best ways I've found is to write out what 2 days lost productivity would mean in dollars, and compare that to a new computer. Just a thought but you probably had that already.
OK, time to play with my new toy: A 1.5TB (terabyte) external hard drive. That's 1,500GB... or just friggin' HUGE!!! Only $150 at Best Buy!!! I can store lots of movies on that puppy!!
