Dan brings up a VERY good point, not only because she has a job, but you're the UNCLE, not DAD; Where's Mom & Dad on this one?
If that situation is anything like the one with my 19-yr old nephew (who doesn't have a driver's license)...the kid & a parent didn't get along. In the case of my nephew, every time he & his dad would going driving...the dad would yell at the son for something he did; which would make the son nervous to the point it wouldn't go driving with his day. The mother was always to nervous to go. Thus guess who got drug into the mess since the nephew has a g/f now? The boy drives alright, for a new driver...just needs a little practice and relax a bit. I guess we all started out driving like that....well most of use at least.
can't do much on the water heater, but you need me to spot you on a starter for a week or two?
sure thanks. can you have it here by 7 am tomorrow morning??

well, rite now she works 3 days a week, 4 hours per day to get enough to pay for books and gas. she is a senior in collage.
and her parents ain't got a pot to pee in. i maintain their 4 cars, my retired parents 2 cars, my 5 trucks and 3 cars, and 6 cars and trucks for neighbors.
so it is always uncle Thomas to the rescue.
she is responsible though, and pays me back, plus tries to pay me for labor, it just takes time for her to scrape up the money.
5 trucks & 3 cars? Hate to say it, but I think hot water in the house trumps having a stable of vehicles. Also have to say that you are one hell of a man for helping out as many as you do. You are giving Christmas 365 and that is no small thing.
anyone else in here a cyclist? i have been making serious strides in losing weight and making a life change. now that i am done training at my job i concentrate more on myself now and i have been wanting to get back into a healthy lifestyle and into good shape for a while now. i started back in october and have been spending about 10-11 hours a week in the gym. my goal is 4000 calories burned a week and to date i have lost 37 pounds and have another 35 or so to go before i hit my first goal. i decided to get into triathlon's and just picked up this:
i got a great deal on it and was fit for it. i gonna try some sprint triathlon's this summer and my goal is to complete a half ironman summer of 2011. anyone else do this kinda thing?
she will pay for it later.
the big problem is i can't get a starter till saturday.
there is a dead spot in it.
Pretty sure a problem like that can be put up with for a while if one just carries something with which to bash on the starter with. We've got a tractor like that. Go to start it and you hear "click" and nothing. Beat on it with a piece of square stock. Get back on. Vrroooom! You're in business.

well, the way i look at it is that i was a real SOB for the 20 years i was drunk. i started drinking when i was 15, was a raging drunk by 20, and pretty much stayed that way till i was 40.
one thing i never did though was drink while on duty, or working after i recovered from my accident and had to leave the force. .so the rest of my life is to be spent repenting for the errors of my early days.
and the best way i can think of doing that is to help everyone i can.
Dang Tom, sorry to hear about your bum luck. Seems things like to all happen at once...and tend to snowball.
yup, they sho nuff do!! all is well now though. the water heater is in and working, i took a shower so i don't smell like a homeless person any more, and the starter for Katie's car will be in Saturday morning, so i get my crown vic back Saturday.
Happy New Year everyone. I hope 2010 brings good things to everyone.

rite you are young one, except it is a escort with a double overhead cam engine, and i can't even see the dang starter from up top.
and she has been dealing with the dead spot for 3 months now before telling me it was giving her problems.
