Glad everyones ok Thomas, I like the neighbor helping neighbor team work that is going on. If you need anything feel free to call.
Your right. The storm has really brought our neighborhood together. My garage has become the street command post. Genny fires the lights, tv or radio, and keeps everyone with ice for their coolers. I have a power strip set up for charging cell phones that is constantly full. After clearing the neighborhood streets, we went from yard to yard chopping trees and stacking debris until everyone one was clear.
We have been hosting neighborhood dinners as well. The work bench doubles as a buffet line and everyone brings what they can. We have been enjoying ourselves so much we decided to have Ike reunions periodically thru out the year.
Scott,
Thanks for the offer! Now that stores and fuel centers are open again I think we are good. Sunday/Monday we were running low on fuel for Genny but now we are stocked. Groceries are available close by.
We have been fortunate. We will emerge from the storm with some great new friends and better prepared for next time.
I spoke with Rick on the way home this evening. Flood really did a number at his store.
3 inches of water got into the raised store part and 3 feet or better in the feed storage. He said the feed looks like "soup". Big mess! There were many other things brought into the room, for the storm, that were flooded also. He has been busy cleaning up debris around his house and will be working, this weekend, at the store. The bridge, closest the store, has been damaged and he has to go the long way around, from the west side, to get to and from the store. Hopefully, the bridge will be back in full operation by early next week. He said he will take pictures of the damage and post them up later. The worst thing in all this is that his insurance will not cover the flood damage. He is staying at his home alone, for now. His wife and family will return home when the the bridge problem remedied. There is concern, in case of emergency, when the bridge access is limited.
Please keep Rick, his family, and our Louisiana friends in your thoughts and prayers. Their losses have been great, also.
He said he is going to do a little "fishing" this evening. I think it's well deserved.
He has a lot of clean up, of debris, around his house and pasture. He said he was going shred alot of it and push it up to burn. He will probably be working at the store on Sunday. Any one wishing to call Rick can PM me for the contact numbers. I will be leaving for a while this evening, but will get back to you ASAP.
Don't want to start another OT thread so I thought I would post this here.
I am preparing my new generator for storage. I put some Stabil into the fuel tank and then ran the generator for about 15 minutes. I then siphoned off as much fuel as I could. I now have the generator running and am going to let it run until it runs out of gas. After that, I will pull the spark plug and lube the cylinder with some fogging oil, it's what I use when I winterize the jet ski. Shut the fuel valve off and I should be good to go....correct?

that is correct, but I think I would leave the tank full with some stabil in it, less headspace to form condensation.
I was just reading an article on that. Unfortunately, these big, destructive hurricanes are getting closer and closer together and also more intense. Sucks for those living along the Gulf Coast.

Spoke with Rick this morning. Things haven't changed much. His family is at his daughter's and the bridge, near his house is still out of service. He can only pass, to the store from the west side bridge, in the mornings and evenings. He is at the store right now, doing what he can. He has had some customers coming and tries to help them with what he can. Still alot of clean up to do. He is sounding pretty down with what all that has happened and rightedly so.
The number to the store is (337)598-5696. I'm sure any word from ya'll would be appreciated.
