Don't want to start another OT thread so I thought I would post this here.
I am preparing my new generator for storage. I put some Stabil into the fuel tank and then ran the generator for about 15 minutes. I then siphoned off as much fuel as I could. I now have the generator running and am going to let it run until it runs out of gas. After that, I will pull the spark plug and lube the cylinder with some fogging oil, it's what I use when I winterize the jet ski. Shut the fuel valve off and I should be good to go....correct?
Scott, is the tank steel or plastic? If it is plastic, then any moisture that would condense shouldn't be a bother if you drain it before you put fuel in the next time. If it is steel, then I would leave it full so it won't rust.
Spoke with Rick this morning. Things haven't changed much. His family is at his daughter's and the bridge, near his house is still out of service. He can only pass, to the store from the west side bridge, in the mornings and evenings. He is at the store right now, doing what he can. He has had some customers coming and tries to help them with what he can. Still alot of clean up to do. He is sounding pretty down with what all that has happened and rightedly so.
The number to the store is (337)598-5696. I'm sure any word from ya'll would be appreciated.
Here is the Google search results.
Looking at his location, he must have been hammered by the storm.
Power is back at the office but still waiting for power at the house. 10 days and counting. Our area has "extensive damage" due to downed trees. I will be installing a transfer switch this evening so we can power the house thru the exsiting system and roll up the extention cords.
Genny has been holding up well. I am suprised at how much we can run at one time with out tripping the breaker. After installing the transfer switch we should be able to run just about everything in the house except the clothes drier and central AC. Fortunately we have a window unit to cool the bedroom at night.

I just spoke to Rick myself on my way home this afternoon. As Roland said things are a mess at the store. The area where he stores all of the feed and grain got flooded bad. He said that it looks like oatmeal. Everything there is a total loss, from the bulk feeders to the bags to the bailing wire that was stored there. To make matters worse there was some under mining on the piers that support that part of the building. The wooden floor is also ruined.
His wife and kids are still not in the house due to the pontoon bridge that aloows then to travel back and forth is only open twice a day (as Roland told you) and that there are no emergency services avaliable yet.
We talked for a bit and I told him how everyone was sending their well wishes, and about the size of this thread, that seemed to brighten him up a bit. For what he is going through he seemed to be doing ok. Not the usual Rick but hell his mood is a lot better than mine would be!!
Thanks I'm not to far from there I think its time for a ride.
I think that would be awesome. I'm sure Rick would welcome the help. Give him a call first. It may be the case that although help is needed, it is just not the right time. With limited services, you may not even be able to get there. If you decide to go, please stay in touch with us and if we can help from our locations, let us know.

You have remember that the bridge is only open twice a day to traffic. Once in the morning and once in the evening. So I would call the store first.
Absoutly great of you to offer to help.
FTE, 7.3 guys/gals. I don't have time right now to post my thanks and thoughts right now. I read this thread and this is the best thing to happen to me sense the storm. I will catch you guys up with all as soon as I get a little more time. I have pics to show ya'll. Sorry for the short post here, but I have things to do. This is a mess over here.
You guys are the best. Glad you other guys came out ok after this.
Rick, good to hear from you. Hope each day brings you a little closer to getting things back to normal. Sounds like it will be quite a few days though. All that I can offer from up here in Iowa is moral support, unless you need some corn or beans. Our prayers are with you.
