Nope. One thing just leads to another. I blame all of this on the EPA too. If they hadn't forced the switch to the darned ULSD, my stock injectors would probably not have bit the big one, which caused me to upgrade to the B-Codes, which in turn contributed to the windows in my 7.3 block, leading to put in the 5.9 which is now making more power than I feel that my rear axle is going to withstand for very long, and making me look into getting some traction bars.

Who knows what's next. Something will surely come up.

You may need to look into Lexan in place of the glass, maybe some "Z" rated all terrain tires.

But my mind wanders.....

If you have a Dana 60 or better I'd imagine at least the gears should hold up just fine. If you consider that the new Ford/Dodges/Chevies are all making ~350HP and 650 ft-lbs

Someday, it may turn into a toy project and I would be looking into some things like that.

Well, the rear is a standard Sterling 10.5, but with my truck being a 2000 it's got a Dana 50 on the front. I remember Kevin (mech) broke some front axles, and I believe some rear axles too, until he upgraded them. He did that sled pulling though, which I don't plan to do. My fun consists mainly of playing on the street with the occasional trip to the drag strip.

I took some pics of the Caltracs to the guy who was going to build my traction bars locally, and after looking at the pics, he suggested I get them. He liked the design and wasn't sure that what he would build would cost any less. So, it looks like I'll be getting the Caltracs.

Will do. Talked with Kai about them today and he has no complaints. He told me they do just what they're supposed to, making the truck hook and go without any axle wrap. Should have them ordered next Monday I think. I'm going in on a group buy to save some money on them, so actual order date is not directly in my control.

Since Doug brought this back to life, I guess it is ok to ask, Jeremy, how is it running? Haven't heard anything for a while. How is cold weather starting?

Sorry for the lack of vids guys. For the most part, it's lack of a decent camera to shoot anything with, although I did get one for Christmas, so hopefully I'll be able to get some stuff here in a couple months. The other part is that since I've gotten then engine broken in, it's pretty much been really cold, wet, snowy, or icing outside, and not in any type of condition for me to take any good vids.

I'll try and update quite a bit here, so this post might get a little long, FYI.

The engine has ~4500 miles on it now. First OUA after 3000 miles came back looking freaking spectacular, as far as the amount of soot and no fuel dilution. It's basically telling me the engine is broken in. However, I'm going to play it safe and continue to run Delo until the 10K mark, just to make sure the engine is broken in. After that, I'll switch the engine over to my beloved Schaeffer's oil.

Side note - Delo 400 no longer has much moly in it at all. The new version of it (CJ rated) has ~25 ppm of moly in it, according to the recent UOA I got back on the engine. That's considerably less than what it used to be, and about 1/10th of what Schaeffer's has in it. When they changed the formulation to CJ spec, they apparently cut a lot of the Moly out of it. Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

After my initial troubles with the power steering hoses, there really haven't been any issues. The 2K RPM issue on startup have been cured. A simple change in one of the settings on the Smarty, a shift defuel setting, rectified this. I discovered that on my own.

Cold weather starting has not been an issue so far. It was in the 20's last week when I was headed somewhere, and had forgotten to plug it in. Fired right up. Maybe took a second longer, but really started as easy if not easier than the PSD would have. I was both pleased and surprised. I have no doubt that it would start if it were colder and not plugged in, but have no reason right now to stress the batteries and engine to do so when I can plug it in.

MPG -- it's been okay. I have been averaging ~15 MPG, with mixed driving. On one of my trips over Thanksgiving, I made a point to drive thinking about MPG. I by no means babied it, but didn't hammer it at all either. I accelerated about average, stayed right at all the speed limits on the highways, and drove without any rush. On that trip, I got 17 MPG. That's with winter fuel too. If winter fuel costs as much MPG as some say, I might be up to ~19 MPG when the summer fuel comes back online.

HP -- I believe it's at 550 HP right now. I dynoed it a month or so ago, at a dyno near St. Louis, that everyone there told me was ~100 HP low when compared to a familiar dyno, such as Dumbar's mobile dyno. Anyway, I laid down 450 HP and 850 TQ...so on a common dyno, that should be 550 HP and ~1000+ TQ. We'll have to see what it does at TS though, to have a solid comparison.

Will posed up a link to my YouTube account. I do have a recent acceleration run on there that I made while traveling over Christmas. That's with the Smarty on #3...the dyno run was done with the Smarty on #7. What I like though, is that you can see the boost up at 46 psi (I did finally get a new boost gauge), and EGT's ~1200-1250. Rail pressure was holding okay at 22-23K (equate it to ICP), which is not bad for a stock CP3 pump, although I'd like to see 26K out of it. Looks like a pressure box and second CP3 pump are in my future.

I'm also looking at getting a second turbo, the big turbo in a compounds envelope, although I'm in no rush. For those curious, it will be an S480 turbo, which is made by Borg Warner. The additional CP3 and compound turbo setup should be worth ~700 HP or so, maybe 750. However, that setup will be capable of supporting 900-950 HP, when I decide to make the injector change and get the heads fire ringed.

The tach box from PCS has been completed, and showed up right after Christmas. I haven't had time to hook it up yet though, but I may try to do that this weekend. Depends on what the weather looks like on if I want to mess with that or not. Too cold outside = me not working on it. Yes, I'm a wuss. Deal with it.

The Cal-trac traction bars I was looking at getting into a group buy on -- I have absolutely no idea what the hell happened on that one. The guy spearheading it over at PSN, come to think of it, I haven't even seen him posting recently. Oh well, it's not like I'm hammering on it much, so they can wait.

Let's see...anything else I'm missing or can think of? If you all have questions, please don't hesitate to ask. It's been running great, and I have no complaints at all. The engine is just awesome. It's so smooth and runs so well, it still amazes me. I have a feeling it will be amazing to me for many more months to come.

The couple things on the agenda for the spring/summer will be to get to BTS to have the trans completely updated and to get the cruise control hooked up. I do miss having the cruise not working. It'll be pretty simple to hook up though. It's just a matter of buying the cruise control servo from a gas truck and wiring it up. Shouldn't take more than a day to do it when I'm ready to do it.

Like I said, anything else you all have questions about, please let me know. I know what I like about it, but don't know what you all would like to have info about.
