This is the Crew I am building It is a 1978 F250 with a 351M Dana 44 front and a Dana 60 rear Paid $3400 For it. I will be getting the frame and axles powdercoated, with some extra little parts done as well. I will be putting a '95 Cummins in it. I have already started the teardown and Have a HP dana 60. I picked up a 1979 Ford F350 that had the 60 in it for $1200. So here it goes.
Picked up a 1995 Wrecked Dodge with a 5.9 cummins with 100,000 miles on it for $3200
So enough with the pics and prices here is the tear down of both.
Like I said earlyer that I bought a '79 F350 with a HP D60 up front. I drove 20.5 hours round trip and 1000.2 miles
Here it is Back at the house
Getting ready to get that D60 outa there
Got it out
Now to pop the D44 outa the F250
Threw the D44 under the F350 so I can move it.
Took the D60 to the pressure wash and got most of the crud off it.
Stuck the D60 under the 250 frame to see how everything fits. Looks like my frame in the front sits a little lower with the 60, but it might just be me.
Well I am going to be putting the cab back on to start mocking up the motor mounts and crossmembers. I have a Stainless tank in progress but it is slow going right now. I am sick of borrowing welders from buddies so looks like I am going to be getting a welder so I can keep this thing rollin. I am thinking of getting a Millermatic 211 or 212. Have any of you guys used one of those? Little spendy but I think that would be the best for what I need it for.
Another little toy for taking the body on and off.
Great work, cant wait to see it finished. I cant give you any info on the welder...sorry. I cant wait to rebuild my 73 crew but I will leave the stock 390 in it.
Nice to see another crew/cummins build. Great progress so far!! I have a Miller 252 welder and i love it. Just took a quick look at the 211 and 212 and they look pretty good. In my opinion you can't go wrong with miller.

What are you going to use for a tranny behind the diesel? the 4 gear in the crew or the slush box frome the dodge....I'd run a standard in my opinion. The dodge autos weren't that good. I adapted to a ford ZF5 to my cummins in my crew.

I'm going to use the auto out of the dodge for now see how it goes then upgrade later on!
Miller 211 Welder should be here next week finally so I can start fabing up the motor mounts and crossmembers. Still putting some Ideas together on how I want to do this.

Well start a thread when you get your project started so I can keep an eye on the progress. No biggie on the welder I went with the Millermatic 211 should be fun for a while.

that welder looks good has a 30-210 amp range
the only issue I see with it is it has a 150 amp 220v 30% duty cycle
would like to see duty cycle up around 50%
run it on the 220v and get the bottle don't use that flux-core it is junk
I emailed my rep at miller and he said good welder for home use just don't do any continuous welds longest weld you want to do is 60 seconds
