I've got '78 F250 Supercab Ranger XLT, 4x4. Bought it with the 400/4spd, and replaced it with the 460/C6. I was looking for one for about 4 years, and spotted this one sitting in a used car lot. Snagged it for $4K, had new paint and good interior. It's not a daily driver for my wife, as I have too long of a commute. She likes driving it.
More then you would think! But up,and running, and not rooted to death is another story.I will never part with my put together supercab!460/C6/NP205 D60 front/D70 rear,L&L fenderwell header's,750 AFB Comp.series carb on a Edelbrok peformerII,and the motor was rebuilt befor I added what I thought was needed.Oh yea MSD adjustable timming unite to replace stock brain.I had to build it from several truck's but now it's together, and here for EVER!!!
have 2 that are roadworthy. 1 is a F250 supercab 4x4 shortbed and lifted, 351m 4spd 60/70 38s. not pretty but texas body. 2 is a F150 supercab 4x4 shortbed with 60/70 installed in place of original axles and 351m C6 has been replaced by 5.9 cummins/ZF 5spd and original 205.
I WILL NEVER DO IT AGAIN! This is a solid northern truck built to be my fuel eficcient daily driver. about another 30 hrs to completion.
All original, 460, C6, two-tone blue, 1-ton, dual tanks, factory sliding rear window, AC, dual battery, exterior locking toolbox on passenger side bed panel, heavy duty bumpers, heavy duty springs, extra factory added leafs, all the other extras. This is one cool ride!
got me a 77' F250 Ranger XLT supercab camperspecial, rebuilt 460, 2x4, got a deal on her myself, $800, loaded with new parts. Nice to see all you other supercabers
I have 1,76 2wd parts rig, one 77 f250 2wd with a 429 and c6 with 3:73 posi, and a 79 f250 4x4 long bed with dana 60`s in both ends ,460 ,c6,cruise,air,tilt. I haul a 30 ft toy hauler just about every weekend and watch the people stare when they see its not a new super duty when it passes by!!!!
Ok, I'm chiming in. I have two. One is 75 2WD 390/C6 definite work truck, just found out it wont pass smog because it has an odd head on it (not sure what from, casting is C4AE, 360/390 didn't start till 68). Second one is a 77 XLT Trailer Special 2WD 460/C6 with Gearvendors OD, 8100 GVW 3.54 posi. Factory Delux topper, factory AC, factory cruise, This truck was originally owned by a doctor and did not smoke. The only rust is from some minor dings on the body. The original lighter is unused and the ashtray galvanizing inside still shines. Bought it off of ebay, of all places, for $3500. I don't plan to part with it as long as I can drive and remember I have it!
How does the 460 do when pulling hills towing the toy hauler? I'm thinking about getting a Weekend Warrior toy hauler to carry my Early Bronco in. I've got the '78 F250 S/C with a built 460 & C6. So I'm looking for input if this will tow that? The trailer will probably be around the 17,000 lbs mark with the Bronco in it...........
I have a 78 f250 ranger supercab. Repainted in 91, has a 91 box on it so I would like to find a rust free original box, or better yet a whole "new" classic for parts. 400m/c6/205 soon to be 33"s

I have a 30 ft and the last time i weighed in at 16500 lbs , the 460 does good it passes most every thing but a gas station, I used to pull it with my other pick up with the 429 and it did well but suffered when you came to a long grade it just didnt seem to have enough power . the 460 seems to do a lot better.
It looks like you have done your math, a weekend warrior with 3 axels, loaded with every thing including 100 gals of water is probably going to be close to that maybe a little heavier (little), but i have seen motorhomes heavier than that with 460`s.
good luck and enjoy what you buy there a blast to camp in.
