Hey Rick, I've got a '78 3/4 T Longbox Supercab with 350,000+ miles on it. My grandfather ordered it new with a 300/6 and 4-speed and I bought it in '93. 200,000 of those mile it pulled a 24' 5th wheel camper. It's been to every state at least once except Hawaii!! I've rebuilt a 400M with a C-6 to replace the tired 6 and hopefully, in the next month I'll be doing the swap.
A special forum sounds like a good idea. I've got questions for other supercab owners pertaining to engine/tranny swaps.
Due to lots of thinking, and finding that I've just got too many projects that I want to acomplish in my lifetime, I have deceided to sell my '78 F150 Ranger Supercab, I'm so tired of looking for a good rust free cab for it, I love the truck, owned it for 20 years now, lots of $$$ in it, I have an ad in the classified, and will send pictures and a spec. sheet to anyone that asks, then you'll probably see me over at the '87-'96 board, as I am looking strongly at a sharp '95 F150 Supercab. Rick
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 26-Mar-02 AT 04:07 PM (EST)]I own a totally green 78 Supercab F250 Ranger, its kinda a fordenstien. It has the 9" rear and 150 springs in the back, HD dana 44 w/ leaves up front+ sway bar. Front end was swapped out for F250. 400 w/ pretty good size cam, 30K miles on rebuild and a holley 2 barrel on top. Used to be 4 Spd 2 wheel drive, but was swapped out for 4 wheel w/ C6 trans. Truck is pretty much immaculate. Frame and body are beautiful, mounts, etc etc etc. Dual Tanks, Rear bench seat, removeable trailer mirrors, perfect dash, vinyl seats, square headlights, roof lights, green headliner w/ chrome trim, bedside toolbox, factory chrome bed rails, all trim intact, stock "ram air", factory bed liner its all there. Right now its waiting for a new tranny though Some stuff was taken off the 250 w/ Explorer package and thrown onto it...By the way, how envyed are those slotted aluminum rims?
It's not what you buy, it's what you build!

I dunno if I should call it ram-air, that might be giving it to high of a grade. It's just the little air catcher behind the grille which has a pipe that runs into the air cleaner. Only ever saw one Ford truck with it, but it didnt have the pipe, so I was stunned. LoL. I do have a pic of it, but it was taken when it hadn't been washed for about 2 weeks. Dunno how to put it on here though. Gonna make a gallery soon so. .
Sounds like a great idea to me - most of the folks I know think I'm off my rocker regarding these trucks. My first was a 1974 F-100 supercab longbed that unfortunately finally succumbed to cab support failure. The steering column let go and I had no place to work on it. I now have three, a 1977 F-250, a 1977 F-150 Ranger, and a 1979 F-150 Custom, all supercabs. The 1979 is a shortbedhas a bad lower bearing in a Windsor 351m400, and is beyond repair. It had severe rust damage, and I began derbying it last year. The 1977 F-150 is also a major rust case but has a strong Cleveland 351m400 in it with a good C6. A broken spring mount and broken shock mount have forcibly retired it. The F-250 is my newest acquisition, and will be my primary truck with a 400 and a four-speed and NO RUST!!! I hope to keep it in that condition, as they are getting hard to find. I also have a complete 73-79 front clip and piles of other parts for them.
I'm new here, found this old thread. Just wanted to add my Supercab to the list.
I have a '78 F250 4X4 Ranger XLT Supercab. It's a longbed. 460/C6/205
Dana 60's front and rear. I believe it has pre 77 1/2 high boy springs under it.
When I bought it it had a 351M. Combine that with the 3.54 gears and the 35's that were on it, and it wouldn't get out of it's own way. I built a mild 460 for it, dropped down to 33's and it's performed much better.
I painted it a couple years ago, dechromed it. Added some Eagle 589 aluminum wheels, and tinted windows. Currently it's my daily driver work truck.
Hopefully will be retiring it sometime in the next year for a full frame off build.
I have a 78' super cab, it's brown like most that have posted pics, I live in wisconsin and the outside looks ok but underneath is a different story. I plan on just running her till she gives. I've had it for a little under a year and it was very neglected before i purchased it. I've replaced all sorts of parts, but now that the tons of minor repairs are taken care of she's my daily "winter beater" driver. It will be a sad day when I take her to the bone yard or sell her off...)= On a brighter note, I expect it to last another 20 years!!! My only complaint is that I wish it was 4wd, it's no better in snow than a fox body!
i am about to have a supercab! i bought all the parts except for the rear driveshaft and a few odds and ends. click on the link to see how crazy i am! we are shooting for 11/16-17 to do the swap over. hopefully i can get teh new cab and frame detailed and painted this week and then do the basic stuff that i have duplicates of like wiring and dash. then we are going to unbolt every piece of Big Ed and bolt it on my nice new rust free cab and frame! cross your fingers for me and i will be driving it by thanksgiving! hawkrod
