I found three supercabs in one place. Mostly complete. I have dad's'78 supercab ranger with a 400m 2bbl c6 that I am working on. The three supercabs are located right here in Marshall.
I guess I'll jump on this old thread too. I have a 79' Super cab 4X4 4 speed with 460, factory air. I also know of several other dead ones in the local bone yard here in Wyoming. All the ones in the bone yard are 2 wheel drive. Some are not in too bad of shape.
My daily driver is a 1976 f-350 supercab. It Is a trailer special with 460 c6 and dana 60 rear with 3.73 gear. Ranger xlt trim, no A/C. I bought it from the original owner in 2000, 81000 miles. It has a little rust but no much for this area!
It is only two wheel drive, but I would like to make it 4X4. I don't want to cut and weld the frame. I would like to just swap the front axle out of a 250 or 350 4X4. The problem that I foresee is that my truck's front axle has coil spring suspension and I would really like the leaf spring heavy duty 4X4 axle. Has anyone done a swap like this? Is there any info anywhere about this swap? Supercab 4X4 frames are very rare in this area (probaly everywhere), and I would like to avoid a frame/cab swap. Reg cabs 4X4 are quite common and fair priced, just rusty. I love my Supercab and need the extra space for two kids and a dog.

I was going to do this exact thing before I found a frame. After spending some time studying the matter, it appears that the frames could be cut at an angle just behind the front cab mount. The cross sections of the frame are different beneath the cab but appear to be close enough to work ahead of that. I chose not to due to the HP/torque I plan on making.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Dec-02 AT 10:53 PM (EST)]First off i agree with Scot, but my sources from [link:www.outwar.com/page.php?x=20428|FordFriends] tell me differently, check out what they got to say.
I have a 78 F-250 Custom SC, for all the specs and details, check out my gallery. She is a great truck and has just ran for the first week after leaving me stranded when the 400 threw the timing chain off the cam gear. That nylon Ford put on the stock cam gear is more trouble than it is worth. Sure is nice to hear from some other SC owners!
I have a 78 250 d60s front and rear. I really love this truck, the first truck I ever bought. But the body is junk and I can't find any parts to replace them with. Being from PA its hard to find rust free parts. I have looked on this board for almost a year trying to find a good cab in resonable distance (up to 600 miles) and I cant find anything. I hate to say it but I might give up on it and get rid of the good parts on it. Jason
I have a 1978 f150 2X4 Supercab Ranger Lariat that was a califonia truck it has no rust on the cab and just a small spot on the drivers side above the rear wheel the guy I got the truck from started to sand it so it does have surface rust. The surface rust comes off very easy with lite wet sanding. It does not have a motor yet, I am planing on istalling a 351c with an automatic. may be interested in parting out though. I live in Lincoln NE if interested email me at inahury1(No Email Addresses In Posts!)

Sounds like a good deal. I bought my '78 F250 Ranger Supercab 4x4 for $4100. It has only a few pinholes in the floorboards and a couple of quarter size holes in the extended cab floor. I've since replaced the sheetmetal with new. It had the 400 & NP435, and I've since added the 460 & C6.
Where in PA are you from? Is you truck a short or long box? I may be interested in it if it goes up for sale. As far as a cab for it I do not know of any good metal here in the northeast. I saw a supercab cab in a junkyard in Conklin NY(40 miles north of Scranton) less than a year ago, but I do not know what kind if shape it was in.
Scot,
What year Frame did you find? How hard of a conversion was it? Do you have any pictures? Can I use any year frame as long as it is a 4x4 supercab long bed 250 or 350? Will my 460 fit in any year?
Your truck sounds nice. Where did you get your engine? I am capable of cutting and welding the frame but I would rather not. I would prefer to swap frames if I can find on in my NY or PA area. Thanks for your help.
How about Crew Cabs. I just bought a 1977 F-250 Crew Cab short bed with a 400 cid and factory air, two wheel drive. By this time next year it will be a 4X4 riding on 36's, tilt wheel and more.
Pete
P.S. My wife loves it.
