Bought a 76 F101 out of a junkyard a few years back, just put in a new gas tank and carb and still drove like a top so not sure what the mileage is but its been ran from 76-2002 then 2006- now without a problem.
well, as of July 3rd, the Argo has 321,000 miles and change. The original speedometer went FUBAR last month, so I now have one from a 1994 E250 van that "only" reads 228,000 miles. But along with something old comes something new: on July 3rd, it set wheels to pavement for the first time as a 4x4. I just finished converting it to 4wd with parts from an 87 F-150 with a blown 302 that I bought for $300.00. The downside is I had to part ways with my NP435 and put an AOD in... for now. I intend to put a C6 with a tight 1,200 stall converter in next summer. This winter I am going to rebuild a C6 for such a purpose. I love it anyway: the engine does like the overdrive, and I like the manual hubs and manual shift transfer case. The AOD runs nice though, so I am not sure if I will swap it. It's just that I am used to doing heavy work with this truck, and I am afraid of the AOD being the weak link in the chain. I would have no worries with a C6, and the fact that this will rarely see over 55 mph (2,200 RPM without overdrive) because I now have a 1992 Chevy Caprice Wagon as my highway cruiser, highway fuel economy is not my main concern for this truck anymore. I want it to still be able to tow heavy trailers like it did with the NP-435, drive out on the beach, and be dependable in bad weather (this is my blizzard/hurricane truck too). I am so paranoid about the AOD overheating I have it cooled through the radiator heat exchanger, the 1987's auxiliary cooler, then an 18,000 lb GVW aftermarket Auxiliary cooler.

NO cash for clunkers with these babies! Thanks for rescuin it (my favorite model '73 -'79 body & THAT engine).
Is it really an F101? or do U have FFS like me (Fat Finger Syndrome)?
Rust is the big problem with vehicles here in New England. With 246k on mine its the rust that will eventually cause my trucks retirement.
I've got 139k on my 96 4.9L F150. Drips oil like no tomorrow. I should do the oil pan and valve cover seals, but I like of like the self-oiling of the rest of the chassis.

I agree. Are you doing the frame change yourself? Where did you source the frame from? I've got some frame issues and I'm thinking about changing frames sooner than later.
I'm in MA as well. Not able to do a frame change myself, but I'm looking for a shop that might be able to do it for me.

No it is a f-101 they did 101 to 106 in the 70's. The 101 meant cheap as could be. Single cab nothing fancy.
I bought a 92 F150 new, 5speed od manual tranny, drove it 280,000, no engine work. Sold it (stupid), saw it still running two years later in town. Currently have an 82 F150 that I swapped in a new long block, runs great.
bought a 1988 f150 new but the frame rotted out at 235000 miles. now have a 1990 f150 with 140000. having some recent problems, but overall it is a good truck.
Have a 76 f100 it reads 99,909 I think. The wife says the she believes the folks that had it before her said it turned twice for them. pulled da block all rings had pieces missing and it still ran until her dad adjusted the card and it caught fire. Machine Shop said it did not need to be turned even with #6 blowing a ring thru the top of the piston. dam strong engine.

The 240 came out in '68? How many yrs B4 ford switched to (dropped the 240) the 300? I assume it changed again to "fuel injection" by way of a throttle body sorta thing in early/mid 80s? and finally onto individual injectors @ each cylinder in early 90s.
Can anyone help me with more accurate dates? and confirm my 'poor man's" definitions of that progress curve?

You're swell for helpin!
- Thanks
If I am not mistaken, 1981 to 1985 were the feedback carburetor years. 1986 was the first year for port injection. The 300 never had the CFI/TBI setup (the "glorified carburetor" as my shop teacher used to call them), they went right to PFI from computer controlled carburetion.
"...1981 to 1985 were the feedback carburetor years..." could be. Oh, yeah I 4got about THAT. The trucks usta B later than the cars. It wuz dropped in them in '68 ('67 wuz the last load-o-matic and spark control valve - carb/dizzy). Thank you Argo. I know U got the last yr...
Did the 240 stop (when?) and the 300 start or were both in production (know when?).

I do not know the exact years, but the 240 and 300 ran concurrently for several years. The engine family came out in the very early 60s and the 240 ceased production in the early to mid 70s, I believe.
