That's probably some kind of record for a feedback carbed 300, which was littered with vacuum hoses and other emissions control gizmos.

Well, it lived as a feedback carbed 300 from 1986 - 2008, when I purchased it from the original owner. At that point [~120K miles], it was converted to Duraspark and 1970 Carter YF carburetor.

However, my son's 1984 with original feedback system is still alive @ 236K miles. It has run well until recently and I am "chasing" the problem. He wants it to stay "stock" for as long as possible.

Good luck with that - you must be a glutton for punishment.

Why not start a thread on the issues he's having. Maybe somebody here can help.

89 F-150 with the 4.9 300 straight 6 and 205,000. Of course the odometer doesn't pass 99k so it says 5000.

95 F150 4.9L w/ M5OD -- got it with 292,000 miles & put 1,000 more on it. Have been doing maintenance. Replaced thermostat (had failed open & truck never warmed), radiator (new thermostat = heat = blow out stopleak from PO), all vacuum lines, heater core hoses, transmission fluid + top seal + inspection seals, air filter, oil, plugs, wires. Runs pretty nice.

Two issue:
(1) Oil pressure drops to 10 PSI at idle when warm, will try 20W50 next time. Not that concerned, 10 PSI per 1,000 RPM is what I've been told before.
(2) Seems to have a slight knock when cold, probably rod bearings. May address at some point, probably when the truck tells me to.

Edit: Typical rear main seal leak like most. Forgot to mention that I replaced IAC. Also planning for cap + rotor pretty soon.

Try a rear seal from a Modular V8. It is a double lip seal but otherwise the same size.

Geez, our feedback trucks seem to be neck-and-neck! I rebuilt the carb on mine for the only time 3 years ago but the computer controls remain in place. Mines at nearly 232k

Thank you for the reply! When it comes time to do the rebuild I will check it out.

I've attempted a "performance" rebuild on my last truck (1986 with the 4.9, intended to be a daily driver & replace a leased Kia). I learned a lot of lessons with that effort. It culminated with me selling it for about 1/3 what I put in it because we were building a house & the truck was destined to sit & languish for a couple years.

This time I'm keeping it as stock as possible. I intend to make improvements for reliability / cost savings, and your tip about the rear seal fits this approach perfectly.

4.9 litre mileage

My 92 F150 has 757, 500 km ( or 473,437 miles)on it now and still runs OK. It's getting tired so I think I'm going to rebuild it next year. It still only burns (or drips)a quart of oil between oil changes

drip missing every 7K

Then, some would say, is a rebuild necessary?
Hop it up? - new intake? carb? turbo? nonadem needs 'rebuild'...
